Meeting point

Go to Discovery Whale Watch. Look for a blue shed with a navy sign that says Discovery Whale Watch. There are many places to park near the wharf. The easiest and closest parking lot is the Wharf Lot #1, accessed on Figueroa Street. When you enter the parking area, drive as far left as possible until you arrive at the gated lot. Take the ticket to enter the gated lot and park as close to the main wharf as possible (rows A, B, or C). Keep the parking ticket with you, as you will need it to pay and exit at the attendant booth. If you are using a GPS, you can use the address 245 Washington Street, Monterey, CA 93940.

When the tour guide pulls out his mobile phone and jumps around in the boat with joy, then something special has happened: two whales came very close to the boat and observed us, the people in the boat. So it was a mutual visit. And both the tour guide and the skipper had never experienced that before. Neither do I. Great experience that was a lot of fun overall.

Saw at least six humpback whales, a pod of Risso’s dolphins and sea lions too numerous to count. Isiah was personable and gave us an education on the ocean. Far above and beyond my expectations. Well worth the money. Sit on front of boat going out. DO NOT sit in front coming back. You get soaked.

Our sunset whale watching tour was amazing! Captain Joey and naturalist Andrew were amazing telling us everything about sea life and always keeping us safe. We saw around 10-13 humpback whales, many sea lions, otters, jellyfish, and plenty of birds. At the end of the tour when returning to the pier we were able to watch a beautiful sunset. Don’t forget to bring your jacket because it can get cold and if you are struggling to find parking in the fisherman’s parking just go to the parking garage in front called “Downtown East Parking”.
