What to Expect
Head to Cairo on a 2-day tour from Port Said to visit the incredible Pyramids of Giza and discover more of Egypt's ancient past. Spend a night in Cairo before exploring the city's famous sights and bustling streets on the tour's second day.
Day 1: Port Said to Cairo and Tour of Pyramids
The tour begins with pick-up from your cruise boat in Port Said. You will find your driver next to the exit door of the cruise ship holding a sign with your name on it. From there, enjoy a private drive inland to reach Cairo. The drive will be about 3 hours in a luxury air-conditioned van.
Upon arrival in Cairo, you will head straight for a visit to the Great Pyramid of Giza, the only remaining wonder of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. At the Giza plateau, you’ll not only see the great pyramid of Khufu, but also the pyramids of Chefren and Mykerinus, the valley temple of Chefren, and the iconic Sphinx. If you choose, you can also make an optional visit to the Giza Solar Boat museum.
After lunch at a local restaurant, head to the Sakkara Necropolis; a vast complex of temples and pyramids featuring the first pyramid ever built in Egypt. You will also see the step pyramid of King Zoser, designed by the famous engineer Imhotep. Then, visit one of the magnificent Mastabas (burial chambers) of either Ptah Hotep, Kagemni, or Mereruca.
From Sakkara, return to Cairo for an overnight stay.
Day 2: Egyptian Museum, Salah Din Citadel, and Khan El Khalil Bazaar
After breakfast at your hotel, board a transfer to the Egyptian museum which houses around 150,000 remarkable artifacts. See the treasures of the boy-king Tutankhamun, and learn more about the incredible history of ancient Egypt. You will then continue on to the Salah El Din Citadel, a remarkable medieval fort built around the year 1183.
The Citadel is home to many historic buildings, including one of the most beautiful mosques in Egypt; the Mohamed Ali Alabaster Mosque.
Time permitting, you will then have the chance to wander through the oldest bazaar in the Middle East, the Khan El Khalili Bazaar which dates back to the year 1382. Experience the atmosphere of Cairo as it was hundreds of years ago, and walk through the city’s amazing narrow streets and alleys, past beautiful mosques and traditional coffee shops.
