What to Expect
Spend a full day in and around Cairo on a tour specifically catered to those who want to learn about the Egyptian pyramids in depth. You will not only visit a handful of pyramids, but you will learn about the evolution of them and the timeline during which they were built.
Begin your tour early in the morning, around 7:00. You will first head to Saqqara, an ancient burial ground. Here is the site of the oldest complete stone building complex, Djoser's step pyramid. This area is also the burial ground for the nobles. The complexes of Unas and Teti are also located here, and depending on your interest and energy, you may want to explore the area more.
In Dahshur, you will visit one of the most remote pyramids, standing in the middle of nowhere in the desert. The Bent Pyramid is unusual due to its well-preserved casing layer. The Red Pyramid is less steep and you may go inside and explore the burial chambers.
Stop at a local restaurant for lunch and enrich your experience with a taste of authentic Egyptian cuisine. Then continue on to Giza and visit the Great Pyramid of Cheops. You will have time to explore the other structures located at the Giza Necropolis, including the Great Sphinx. At the end of the day, when you have seen all there is to be seen, you will be taken back to your hotel.
