Embark on a 2-day safari from Cairo and explore the desert wilderness as well as many natural wonders and ancient sites. Highlights include the hidden monastery of Abu Lifa, the idyllic Lake Moeris, as well as overnight camping in the Whales Valley.
What to Expect
West Fayoum is not as well known as Baharia Oasis, but much more suitable for a 2-day desert safari from Cairo. You will see more of the desert and less of the asphalt road by going there! Additionally, you will be able to see more attractions, such as natural, historical, cultural, and geological wonders.
Start your desert safari adventure from Cairo by 4x4 car after being picked up at 07:00. Drive on a tar road for about 50km (30 mile) towards Fayoum before getting into the desert. Explore the north of Lake Qaraoun before stopping at the the hidden monastery of Abu Lifa, the ancient Basala Query, and the ruins of the Petrified Forrest. The tour will then pause for lunch before continuing onwards to the shore of Lake Fayoum and through the valley of Wadi El-Rayan and the Whales Valley.
Wake up after camping overnight in Whales Valley and enjoy breakfast. The tour will drive to the Wadi El-Rayan depression before stopping at the Magic Lake and El-Rayan waterfalls, thought to be the largest waterfalls in Egypt. Next stop will be the picturesque Tunis Village. Here you can pause for lunch and enjoy the views. Round up the tour with the scenic drive back to Cairo.
