What to Expect
Spend 3 nights on board a luxury 5-star cruise boat and sail down the mighty River Nile from Luxor to Aswan. Visit the great temples in Luxor, the ancient Egyptian royal tombs in the Valley of the Kings, and the stunning beauty of Aswan’s Philae Temple. Enjoy an optional felucca ride past beautiful islands. or glide over Luxor in a hot-air balloon.
With an overnight train transfer from Cairo, you will arrive in Luxor ready from your departure early the next morning. Pick-ups from hotels in Cairo for the transfer to the train station are available at 19:00 the night before.
Day 1: Luxor - Embarkation
Upon arrival in Luxor, you will be met at the train station and transferred to the Nile cruise departure point. Check in and enjoy an energizing breakfast, then embark on a guided tour of the East Bank.
Drive to Luxor Temple, built by Amenhotep III from Nubian sandstone. Continue to the Karnak Temple, said to be the 2nd most visited site in Egypt after the Pyramids of Giza. The miraculous temple was dedicated to the sacred triad of the ancient gods of Thebes, Amon, Mut, and Khonsu.
Transfer back to your Nile cruise for the night.
Day 2: Luxor
Wake to an unforgetable tour of Luxor`s highlights on the West Bank of the Nile. Luxor has often been called the world's greatest open-air museum, and on this full-day tour you will soon discover why.
Start with a visit to the Valley of the Kings, Luxor`s ancient necropolis. Used for the burials of Pharaohs from approximately 1539 BC to 1075 BC, the Valley of the Kings contains at least 63 tombs, while the nearby Valley of the Queens, where the wives of the Pharaohs were buried, contains some 70 tombs.
You will also visit the massive stone statues of the Colossi of Memnon, and the mortuary temples of the Temple of Hatshepsut, before returning to your cruise boat. Sail overnight to Kom Ombo.
Day 3: Kom Ombo - Edfu
After breakfast, leave the cruise to start your guided tour of the Temple of Horus in Edfu. Dedicated to the falcon-headed god, and considered the best preserved of all Egypt’s temples, the dramatic temple dates from the reign of Cleopatra VII and was built of sandstone between 237 BCE and 57 BCE.
Sail to Kom Ombo to visit the temple shared by the two gods Sobek and Horus. While much of the temple has been destroyed by earthquakes the ruins are spectacular, and some of the 300 crocodile mummies discovered in the vicinity are displayed inside the temple.
Return to the cruise boat and sail overnight to Aswan.
Day 4: Aswan - Disembarkation
After breakfast disembark from the cruise boat for the last time and drive to Aswan`s High Dam. Enjoy the superb views across Lake Nasser and marvel at the feat of engineering. Continue by small sailing boat to Philae Temple situated on the small island of Agilkia, located in the middle of the Nile.
After an optional lunch, you are free at leisure until the 19:00 transfer to catch your overnight train back to Cairo. You will be met in Cairo the next morning for a transfer to your hotel.
