Best things to do in Cairo

You can't swing a hookah in Cairo without striking archeological treasure! "The City of a Thousand Minarets" boasts not only stunning Ottoman mosques, but ancient wonders and a clash of modern and traditional cultures. Here's what to see.

Pyramid of Djoser

Book a day trip to this stepped tomb built by the earliest known architect, Imhotep. The Pyramid of Djoser has survived over 4 millenia, though all that remains of the Pharoah Djoser is his left foot!

Egyptian Museum of Antiquities

The museum boasts the world's largest collection of Egyptian antiquities, including Tutankhamen's solid gold death mask. Expect strict security measures, but it's truly a must-see!

Al-Azhar Park

Finished in 2005, it's already hard to imagine how the site of the breathtaking Al-Azhar Park was once a mountain of garbage accumulated over five centuries!

Al-Azhar Mosque

For a tour of Cairo's religious life and history, there's no better place to start than at the city's oldest mosque. Al-Azhar Mosque was built in 970AD and it's also home to the world's first university!

Khan Al-Khalili

Khan Al-Khalili,Cairo's most prominent souk (market), is as old as the Egyptian capital itself, and its economic heart still beats with tourists and locals alike!

Mosque of Muhammad Ali

Crowning its citadel is Cairo's most prominent landmark. Not only is the stunning Mosque of Muhammad Ali one of the best places to visit, it offers greats views of the city too.

Giza Necropolis

Though home to two of Cairo's most famous icons – the Great Pyramids and Sphinx – the Necropolis' best attraction might actually be the fascinating ancient workers' village.

What people are saying about Cairo

The tour exceeds expectation and is made more interesting.

Ahmed Fayed is incredibly knowledge-able and professional as a tour guide. He is prepared to answer every question thrown not just about the tour itself but Egypt as whole. He makes sure every important part of the sites is covered memorably. I could not have recommended having Ahmed Fayed as our personal tour guide and EmoTours for organising such tours. Thank you for making sure we had such great time in Alexandria.

Perfect trip to Cairo / Perfekter Ausflug nach Kairo

We had the wonderful luck to decide for that great trip. Short after booking Ibrahim contacted us and confirmed everything including time schedule. Pickup/flight went well and Mamdouh (speaks German/English/Russian/French) picked us up in Cairo. We've seen the Egyptian museum, had lunch close to the pyramids and then visited an old mosque, a church and a synagogue in ancient Babylon. Mamdouh knows everything and gives you the best support you can wish. He even keeps street vendors away from you! In the evening we've been to a cruise on river Nile and walked along Cairo's streets. Next day we went to Saqqara and egyptologist Mamdouh led us to and IN(!) tombs. After lunch we visited the Great pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx, had coffee in a street bar and then went to Al Khalili bazaar. Thank you so much for the wonderful trip! PS: Are you afraid of visiting Cairo? Don't be! People are nice, we felt safe the whole time and thanks to the careful driver Said even the traffic was okay :)

The guide Abo, arrived early and was very professional throughout.

i booked the tour last minute for my 75 year old father to see the pyramids. i was concerned for him as he was going alone. the Guide arrived early to the hotel pickup and looked after my father very well. i am full of praise for his efforts and would not hesitate to use the service again. many thanks!

Great Value, Informative and Wonderful Staff!

My fiancee and I (early 30s late 20s) stumbled upon this tour company when we were planning our week long trip to Egypt. It served as a perfect and flexible option to cover everything we wanted to do and more. The staff were all extremely friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. In particular Farag, our driver in Cairo was very reliable, punctual and was a warm and welcoming first contact at the airport pick up. Miss Resha, (Cairo - Egyptologist) was extremely knowledgeable and made the very hot Egyptian museum much more bearable. Miss Heba in Luxor was another great guide who made the sometimes dense information interesting and easy to digest. Overall we couldn't have asked for a better company and we would highly recommend it.

Superb, Informative and very well organised - a trip of a lifetime

Ibrahim who arranged the trip was communicative, helpful and in constant touch to make sure we were happy with the service. I travelled with two daughters 14 and 11, everything went smoothly from pick up at the hotel, help through check in at Hurghada to collection at Cairo airport. I started writing this based on what we had done but space is limited so my main message is that Ibrahim, Mamduh our guide and David our driver were supremely helpful and we got to see so much more than the normal quick tourist trip. Mamduh has been a guide for 26 years and knows everyone - which gave us unique access to tombs at the step pyramid at Saqqara which were mind blowing in their splendour and detail, and provided so much insight into the pyramids at Giza, the Egyptian Museum and the Mosques and Churches of Cairo. We learned so much and felt we had become friends after our two days - our hugs at the airport probably say more than anything. Be confident to use these guys, you will not regret it.
