Visit Tjapukai by Day and experience Djabugay Aboriginal culture through a mix of live performances and interactive activities. This half-day excursion is filled with history, color, and enchanting music and dance.
What to Expect
Tjapukai by Day is an educational and entertaining venue that provides visitors with an authentic aboriginal cultural experience.
The program includes traditional face painting on arrival, a visit to the Magic Space mini-museum, a Creation Theatre presentation, and the Didgeridoo – A Journey show. Visitors will also experience a Tjapukai Dance Theatre cultural performance, a Cultural Village talk on bush foods and hunting, and a traditional tutorial on boomerang and spear throwing.
A particularly unique theater event is the didgeridoo show that blends contemporary Australian music with the haunting sounds of the didgeridoo and stunning images of the Cairns region.
In the Creation Theatre live performances are combined with holographs in the retelling of stories of the spiritual and traditional beliefs of the Tjapukai people. At the Tjapukai Dance Theatre you’ll watch a live performance by the world famous Tjapukai Dance Troupe that celebrates traditional corroborees and songs.
During the demonstration and talk on bush foods and medicine you’ll learn how these traditional items were used in ancient times. During the talk on hunting tools and methods you’ll learn first-hand from a Tjapukai warrior how aboriginal people hunted 40,000 years ago.
You’ll also have the opportunity to explore the Magic Space, a museum housing artifacts once used by the Tjapukai people and murals that retell the stories of the Dreamtime.
