Overview
Join this all-inclusive tropical world heritage listed rainforest day tour and see spectacular waterfalls, feel temperate cooler mountain climates, observe unique flora and fauna, valley gorges and mountain views.
What to Expect
Begin your day trip visiting one of the two largest Strangler Fig Trees in the Tableland rainforest, the Cathedral Fig Tree. This tree is over 500 years-old and is a spectacular giant of the rainforest.

From here, head to the Crater Lakes. These craters were formed when hot magna from now dormant volcanoes came into contact with groundwater. The build-up of steam blasted the central cores from the volcanoes and over time, the spectacular craters have filled with fresh rainwater.

Enjoy a relaxing Devonshire Tea served in the teahouse overlooking the lake.

You will then take a short but informative rainforest walk partly around the lake after morning tea, where you will discover one of the best known botanical features of the Lake, the twin Rough-Barked Kauri Pines. These 164-foot (50m) giants are estimated to be nearly 1,100 years-old.

Your next destination is the North Johnstone River, where a stunning waterfall was created by the last flow of lava from the Malanda Shield Volcano.

Visit the hi-tech Malanda information center and afterwards, walk 20 minutes to the surrounding rainforest with the possibility of spotting several unique tropical rainforest species of flora and fauna including the Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo.

Now it’s a short 20 minute drive to the most photographed waterfall in Australia. Millaa Millaa Falls is a great place for a quick dip on a hot day with an invigorating massage from the cascade of mountain water.

Then, visit the spectacular Ellinjaa Falls. Just a short walk through the rainforest will reveal the majesty of this unique waterfall that’s easy to photograph like a professional.

It’s lunchtime. Lunch is a selection of hearty country meals, light salads, big dairymans platters or maybe an all-day breakfast. Whatever you fancy these country kitchen hands can do, and each meal caters to special dietary requirements.

While continuing down the Palmerston Highway towards Innisfail, stop at one or two spectacular lookouts for more photo opportunities.

Now it’s back down to sea level with time to visit either the Babinda Boulders or the picture perfect Josephine Falls. Both destinations are in the midst of the Wooroonooran National Park, and provide great locations to both cool off on a hot day and to get those last spectacular photos of the tour.

As the sun sets over the mountains, it’s time to relax in an air-conditioned vehicle on the way back to Cairns and reflect upon the memories and friends made on this wonderful trip.

* Please note - In the warmer months, you may do the coastal rainforest section of this tour earlier in the day to escape the heat. Also the Mamu Rainforest Walk may from time to time be closed for maintenance. If this is the case, the tour will divert to another location of equally scenic opportunities.
