Cooktown is one of Australia’s most exciting destinations, and one of the country's last great frontiers between the outback and modernity. Now you can spend the day adventuring in North Australia during this 4WD tour from Cairns and Port Douglas.
What to Expect
After a pick-up in our air-conditioned four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle, you will travel north along the Captain Cook Highway – one of Australia’s most scenic coastal drives. You will head towards the World Heritage Listed Daintree National Park, crossing the mighty Daintree River by cable ferry. Journey through this spectacular wet tropical rainforest, which is the oldest rainforest currently growing in the world, renowned for its amazing diversity of plant and animal life.
Your experienced guide will enlighten you with incredible stories and history, as you travel on the 4WD only Bloomfield Track. This will take you through some of the most incredible scenery in the country. Cross rivers and climb mountain ranges to reach the famous Lion’s Den Hotel (est. 1875), one of North Queensland’s oldest running bush pubs.
After lunch you will continue to the unique geological oddity that is Black Mountain. Surrounded in mystery and spoken of in ancient Aboriginal legend, the mountain is a sight not to be missed. After Black Mountain you will arrive in Cooktown to experience 360-degree views from Grassy Hill. Here, you will see spectacular views of the Endeavour River, Coral Sea, and Cooktown.
Enjoy free time to explore historical Cooktown before departing by the inland road, the Mulligan Highway. After traveling through a diverse landscape of cattle stations and the Palmer River goldfields region, you will reach an authentic Queensland pub in the old mining town of Mt Carbine. To end your day of adventure, you will be transferred to you accommodation in Port Douglas or Cairns.
