What You'll Do
  • Enjoy snorkeling on an exclusive reef site straight off the boat
  • Experience complimentary snorkel tours with a marine naturalist
  • Visit Green Island straight from the beach
Hop on board a 16m schooner carrying a maximum of only 25 guests and moor on an exclusive reef site where you can experience an extremely personal snorkel and spend time on the tropical island.
What to Expect
Board this classic sailing schooner with a maximum of only 25 other guests and a friendly crew will introduce themselves. After placing bags in the forecabin, grab a Danish pastry, a piece of fresh fruit, tea or coffee and settle down in a choice of seating either in the aft section or anywhere on the foredeck. Once all guests have boarded, the boat departs the dock and the sails are then hoisted - lend a hand or just relax and watch.

A safety briefing will be given so sit back and enjoy the journey while Cairns disappears into the distance. Within 2-hours, the  boat arrives at the exclusive Great Barrier Reef mooring 1km off Green Island. From there, Pinnacle Reef awaits you as it is just a step off the boat. After a snorkel briefing, all guests will be given full snorkeling equipment including wet suits or lycra suits, snorkel jackets and assisted as necessary for the first snorkel of the day.

Pinnacle Reef is a coral garden with several "bommies" - coral outcrops coming up from 10-12m to just under 1m for easy viewing. Expect to see hard and soft corals with lots of schools of colorful reef fish meandering through the coral garden. Sting rays, turtles and black-tipped reef sharks (very shy and perfectly safe) are also a common sight. Crew will conduct many small personal snorkel tours - enjoy these throughout the day or snorkel with your buddy if you prefer. Watch a fish feed and see many schools of different fish partake in this protected Marine Park site.

Enjoy a personal first dive (optional extra and subject to having no medical conditions contrary to diving) with only two divers to one instructor - no previous experience required with a minimum age 12 years-old. If a certified diver, expect a small group with a complimentary dive guide. This tour is great for conservative diving (maximum depth 10-12m - where all the colour is) but not if you are expecting a deeper water or drift dive .

After a morning of snorkelling and/or diving on this exclusive site, enjoy a large smorgasbord lunch on board the boat. Feast on fresh Tasmanian salmon, prawns, mixed meat, chicken and three different salads - you won't go hungry.

The skipper will then start the trips to Green island so that you can get some "land time" and relax on the beach or enjoy island activities (take some money if you want to do this). These transfers are in a dinghy. Step from the main vessel into the dinghy for a short trip straight to the beach. Guests can opt to enjoy a cocktail at the resort of the island, walk across the island on an interpretative trail, visit Marine Land Melanesia where you can see crocodiles (in captivity) and other marine life and artefacts from around the Torres strait area. Glass Bottom Boat tours and semi-submersible tours can also be done on the island. If wanting these optional island extras, inform the skipper on boarding the boat in the morning so that it can be booked - these are payable directly to the island operators on the day.

Many of the tour guests generally spend 1-2 hours on the island and the rest on board a private vessel on an exclusive reef site. If you want to snorkel or dive after lunch, guests will spend 1-hour on the island and then return to the boat. If you prefer island activities for the rest of the afternoon, then it can be spent on the island and then transfer to the main vessel for the journey home. There are 4.5-hours to enjoy the reef and island - the amount of time spent on reef or island is your choice. Some opt to spend all day on the reef.

After a day of reef and island activities, the vessel departs and sets sail (engines do get switched off) for a relaxing or exhilarating sail home (depending on the prevailing wind). Enjoy fresh fruit, cheese and crackers, a glass of wine and finally, a piece of cake to end on a sweet note for your journey home. Arrive back in Cairns at around 5:00-5:15pm.
