Top Tours & Activities in Cairns
Cairns is in the north of the Australian state of Queensland. The area surrounding the city is a natural paradise - there's the Great Barrier Reef, for one thing - so here are a few exhilarating sights you can check out during a visit to the area.
Take a boat over to Green Island, where you can stop off and go swimming. Experience the unreal coral colors and stunning wildlife of the reef, illuminated by the sun.
You may not be able to delve 20,000 leagues under the sea, but you can go snorkeling, which is pretty close! Here's your chance to be a mermaid or merman for a couple of hours.
Enjoy this lush tropical rainforest on the ground, or fly over it on the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway. You can also seamlessly glide from land to water in an amphibious vehicle!
Experience the culture of the Aboriginal Djabugay people. Enjoy a didgeridoo show, visit a museum with ancient murals, try some Djabugay cuisine, and learn to throw a boomerang.
Take a day to explore the Outback and walk around under a volcano - that's not something you get to do every day!
The Tully River hosted the 1991 Australian Canoe and White Water Rafting Championships. Don't worry, though, you're not alone, as each boat holds seven people.
Owing to its near-equatorial location, Northern Australia is very hot all year round. Make sure to wear cool, cotton clothing, stay hydrated, and definitely layer up on sunscreen and a hat.
Before your trip, consult your doctor about injections you may need to get. If you are walking around in the rainforest, be sure to bring mosquito repellent - ideally purchased locally, as creams from back home may not be suitable for the climate.
For extreme sports like white water rafting, it's essential. There can also be an age limit, so if you happen to be under 18, do check in advance if you need to have a parent or guardian with you.

What People Are Saying About Cairns
Peak season to green island, a bit crowded on the cruise. It seems accommodate a lot of Chinese people all year round as there were many Chinese staff. Yet all the staff are quite nice, and food is good. Nice trip!
My friend and I booked a trip to green Island and went snorkelling on December 31 and it was such a nice experience. The weather was great, the crew were friendly and helpful and the island is gorgeous! 10/10
We had a good day by the beach snorkling the whole day.. the weather was amazing but the water wasnt really clear and we couldnt aee turtles which was a shame..
this trip was very well organised and comfortable, and was a great size number of passengers. Very enjoyable not having to fight for space or food making the whole experience relaxed and pleasurable. Staff were very willing, friendly and able, including caring for my wife who unexpectantly experience a reaction to the seawater in her eyes. there was a very high ratio of staff to customers, which was great. Life on the reef wasn't as extensive as we expected, but beautiful nonetheless. Of course that's not the fault of the tour operator or staff. Very enjoyable experience, would highly recommend the Sea Star to anyone wishing to visit the reef, especially if you want to avoid the big tour groups.
Very well organised tour, impressive boat and very professional crew. We were approximately 100 people but we were alone at the two locations we spent the day in. The timelines were very well measured and since some groups of people were snorkeling, others diving and some others flying on the helicopter it didn't feel crowded at all. The two reefs were astonishing and we had a great time. I'd say it was good value for money, except for the photos they offered on board. I would recommend to decrease the price, they were far too expensive.
