From Manchester: Derbyshire and Peak District Day Trip

1. From Manchester: Derbyshire and Peak District Day Trip

It’s time to leave the big city behind and travel to the Peak District; the region of wild peaks, rugged moorlands, and pretty time-worn cottages. Your first stop is in Eyam, a village that faced unimaginable adversity when the plague broke out here in 1666. Moved by the story of solidarity and strength, you travel onwards to Bakewell. Not only is this town delicious to look at, but it’s also the home of one of England’s most famous desserts, the Bakewell Pudding. With life feeling a bit sweeter now, you venture to Monsal Head. There’s an old rail line viaduct that emerges from green hills to create a unique vista. It’s a gorgeous structure with an impressive history. We’ve got another treat for you, a stop in Castleton. This quaint old town attracts travellers from all over the world for its traditional English charm. You can wander the streets, enjoy a beautiful view up a valley, and learn its history at an insightful information centre. You will also have a chance to go on an optional visit to the Peak’s Cavern. This cave has an outrageous nickname, the largest natural entrance, used to be a hideout for robbers and now it sometimes acts as a concert venue. After a day of delicious treats, spectacular views, and poignant history, you travel back to Manchester and arrive in the late afternoon.

Despite the day starting out rainy and foggy, Chris, our guide made our day a great one. His commentary was very educational and informative and I have since passed on the knowledge I learned about how to age bridges in the Peak District. 😃 There was only myself, my daughter and one other lady on our trip which made for a very intimate and personal experience. The fog lifted and the sun came out in the afternoon and Chris took us to the perfect vantage point to take in a gorgeous 360 degree view of the peaks. His knowledge of plants local to the area was impressive. We visited some lovely villages and some caves and we had enough time to get a pub lunch in Bakewell. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit and I highly recommend it as day trip if you are staying in Manchester as we were.

We enjoyed this day trip highly. Was a rainy day but we almost haven’t felt that! The guide (James) made us listen carefully to his stories, he was kind and articulate. The little places we visited were gorgeous and in the end there was the cavern, which was incredible. Highly recommended.

Chris did an absolutely amazing job today taking me through the Peak District (yes me, as I was the only one on the tour). I had a wonderful day with a lot of insights into England, Manchester, the Peak District and the world itself. It was like a road trip with a friend. Thanks a lot!

Liked the places where there were stops. Could have stayed longer at the lunch stop because it took time to order food/get food and little time left to look around the city

Chris was an amazing guide. Lost of fun stories and very knowledgable. He is very enthusiastic and very keen of making the group have a good adventure on our day out.
