Full description

Burmester has long been recognized for its Port wines and Douro DOC (Denominação de Origem Controlada).

Its history started long ago in London in 1730, when Henry Burmester joined with John Nash to create Burmester, Nash & Co. and from Vila Nova de Gaia they started exporting Port wines all around Europe.

Over the years, Burmester has triumphed from generation to generation, demonstrating its inherent character and determination. Character is the holistic principle of the brand, and of its wines.

Arrive at the Burmester winery for an unforgettable experience. You will visit the Burmester Cellars, located next to the beautiful Luiz I bridge, with an expert guide.

Learn about Port wines and the Douro DOC production process, and taste different port wines.

Includes
  • 2 or 3 Port wines tastings (depending on option selected)
  • Chocolate tastings (if premium option is selected)

It was very informative and fun at times. The port tasting was not the best as the Ruby and Tawney ports were not as good as we expected. We did however ask for a sample of something older and better. This we were given and it was so good we bought a bottle!

The tour was pretty good! Honestly our guide really made it worth it. If it hadn't been for her, I probably wouldn't recommend it. There was a rowdy French group ahead of us that delayed our tour and were so loud in the tasting room. You could tell they were making the guides' lives harder, and due to that there was a bit of miscommunication and chaos in the tasting room for everyone else. Even though we had the premium tasting it didn't show on our ticket when we arrived, but our guide was excellent and fixed the situation for us. Overall the history lesson was interesting, and the cellar is in a beautiful location in the city. I just wish the tasting room was a bit more private for our group, or less full, and that we didn't have to awkwardly make it our guide's problem (who was already overwhelmed with the chaos) when they printed our ticket wrong.

I recently had the opportunity to go on a wine tasting tour of the Burmester canteen in Porto, and I have to say it was an incredible experience. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm hospitality and a beautiful atmosphere. The canteen was cozy and inviting, with rustic decor and a laid-back vibe that made us feel right at home. The tour itself was fantastic, and our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about the wines we were tasting. We learned about the history of Burmester, as well as the winemaking process and the unique characteristics of each wine. It was fascinating to see the barrels and the bottling process, and to learn about the different types of grapes used in each wine. But of course, the best part was the wine itself! We were able to sample a wide variety of delicious wines! I recommend the normal tour, not the luxury one, because the difference between them is just a small dish of cheeses and something else. But Great experience!
