Augusta: Whale Watching Tour

Augusta: Whale Watching Tour

Step on board and cruise Flinders Bay in style on board the Alison Maree, the sturdiest charter vessel in the South West. Everyone is treated as a VIP on board the vessel with complimentary access available to the Skippers lounge. Listen to stories from our friendly Skippers or head down the front of the vessel and learn the history and movements of the whales from the experienced on board Marine Biologist, ask them as many questions as you like. Enjoy a morning or afternoon tea consisting of a hot drink or water and help yourself to some biscuits. With a 99% success sighting rating, you are almost 100% guaranteed to see whales on your tour, if not you can join a tour again for free. The tours are family friendly and suitable for all ages. It generally doesn't take long after departing the Marina until whales are sighted, with over 35000 Humpbacks migrating, binoculars aren't required, there's plenty to see. The cruise goes for approximately 2 hours in the sheltered waters of Flinders Bay, Augusta which is a resting place for the whales whilst on their northern migration. Quite often sighted here is the Southern Right whale - always amazing to see as they were once almost extinct from being hunted back in the whaling days, and due to their gestation period their populations haven't quite recovered as well as the Humpbacks. Our tours depart twice daily from the Augusta Boat Harbour, located on Leeuwin Road, a 5 minute drive from the Augusta Town Centre.

I didn't originally see dolphins on Saturday, but as promised they do give you a refund or ability to book again. On Monday it was absolutely wonderful! We saw at least 10 dolphins. The guide was good for trying to track them down even though it was not the most active season. I really appreciated the burser on board who gave new insights into the center. apparently the dolphins approach closer to the boat in summer, but I was still more than satisfied.

Great guide, friendly and knowledgeable. Lots of dolphins to see out doing their usual thing. Entry and exit on to the boat easy, and boat was covered so good from a sun protection point of view. Would have been good for seats to have been inset a bit so you could sit facing out rather than in and prevent the neck craning, but a minor inconvenience in a very enjoyable trip.

Saw some dolphins and truly enjoyed the time. Because of the strong winds, the water was choppy. But our guide cum transporter managed the boat well… Overall, must experience… Note: Do take note of the changes in the meeting points, depending on the season…

The experience was amazing. Cathy the guide really knows her stuff! The crew and Jess were great, so helpful. Definitely recommend this trip.

Always love seeing dolphins and was a beautiful day for it too.
