Full description

Enjoy a day trip to Colonia del Sacramento, the first site in Uruguay to be declared a UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore the city with a round-trip ferry ticket from Buenos Aires to Colonia city. Select from options that include a walking tour, a teahouse visit, and a winery tour.

Founded in 1680 by the Portuguese Manuel Lobo, the city went from Portuguese to Spanish rule several times until the Declaration of Independence in 1825. Discover how these events made the city a melting pot of architectural styles where Spanish and Portuguese-style buildings coexist.

Walk down cobbled streets and enjoy the unique landscape with spectacular views of the Rio de la Plata. Experience the charming houses, cobbled streets, traditional lanterns, and magical sunsets of El Porton de Campo alongside the Street of Sighs and Faro.

If you choose the option that includes the walking tour, your guide will be waiting for you at the ferry station, ready to tell you all about the history of this incredible town. Return to Buenos Aires via the same ferry route at the end of your day trip.

The ferry ride was very nice. Coming home was very delayed because of the volume of people. Our tour guide was good but it would have been better to have an only English group. She had to explain everything twice -once in English and once in Spanish. It wasted a lot of time.

Such a great experience experiencing this colonial city just under 2 hours away by boat. Tour guide was nice and was able to speak in both English and Spanish. As of this review no Covid measures are in place so I wasn’t required to wear a mask, provide proof of vaccination or provide proof of travel insurance. Just remember your passport as your are crossing into another country. Highly recommend this day tour if you’re staying in Buenos Aires.

The tour to Colonia is something not to be missed if you are in Buenos Aires, the experience of taking the Ferry is unique, and the view of Buenos Aires on the way back at sunset takes your breath away. In my case there was no clarity at the time of giving me the instructions on how to find the walking tour guide, so when I realized there was no one who could help me and I hired a local guide. It seems to me that they were not specific with how they would find me when I got off the ferry. For the rest Colonia is an easy town to walk and get to know and very safe
