Full description
Discover Budapest from a completely different side and climb the hills on the banks of the Danube. Listen to exciting legends and learn more about the stories at the time of the settlement.

Stories of the former Hungarian kingdom, the 150-year Turkish occupation and the Habsburg era await you on the castle hill. The legends provide an insight into the era in which the royal castle, the Matthias Church and the Fisherman's Bastion were created. Hear what the first Bishop of Hungary is all about on Gellért Mountain and learn more about the Citadel, the Statue of Liberty or the Gellért Bath.

The tour begins at the time-honored chain bridge and then takes you up to the castle hill, where you will first visit Hungary's most famous church: the Matthias Church. After a look from the fisherman's bastion you walk through the small streets of the old town and see equestrian statues, old cafés, beautiful squares and countless old baroque houses. The second section begins with Paradeplatz, where the citizens' quarter once bordered the government district. Today, the ruins of the former Ministry of War, the Burgtheater, the Alexander Palace and of course the mighty Royal Palace bear witness to this.

After visiting this district, descend southwards from the castle hill and immediately afterwards up to the Gellértberg, which is far from being as densely populated. Take a look at the statues of Sissi and the "namesake" St. Gellért, you will see the Freedom Monument and the Citadel.
