Full description
Your half-day tour begins with a pick-up at your hotel in an air-conditioned minibus. Enjoy a drive to the Etyek wine region, just a half hour outside Budapest. En route you’ll learn about Hungary’s fascinating history and hear about the country’s long and rich wine tradition. After arriving in Etyek village, you’ll visit 2 unique wineries. These small, family owned boutique wineries produce about 15,000 to 20,000 bottles of wine each year, mostly sold in selected restaurants and from their cellars. Tour the cellars and taste 4 wines at each of the wineries. Finish the day with a rustic, 3-course home-cooked meal. Savor classic Hungarian dishes and discuss your wine discoveries as you enjoy your meal, perhaps enjoying some wine with your food. After the tour and meal, you’ll be transferred back to your hotel in Budapest.

We took a 1/2 day tour to two wineries; both small production, with an excellent selection of exquisite wines. At the second winery we were treated to a delicious lunch of chicken paprikash. Both of our winery hosts were warm and welcoming. We learned much from them about the wines, the process for making them, the history of the area, and even the traditions of Hungarian food. Our guide, Michael, was superb; friendly, knowledgeable about all things Hungarian, and very engaging.

I truly enjoyed this activity. I was grateful that it was available Christmas Day as I was traveling by myself. The wineries were welcoming and and made us feel at home. The wines we tasted were amazing. The tour guide was funny and kind. Overall excellent experience. Thank you so much!

The wine tour was interesting. Lunch was excellent..an absolute adventure for the tastebuds! The microphone was not working well, so we couldn’t hear the commentary from the back of the van. There was little that the guide could do, because she was doing the driving herself, so couldn’t really concentrate simultaneously on talking too.
