Explore the city of Ghent on a private tour. Discover why National Geographic has called this city the "third most authentic" in the world, as you explore medieval streets, modern art museums and the friendly locals in this Flanders town.
What to Expect
Spend a full day exploring the incredible city of Ghent in an easy day trip from Brussels. During your excursion, you'll have a chance to walk along the picturesque Greselei and Korenlei, both sides of the river that divides this city. You'll soon discover why National Geographic Traveler has listed Ghent as the "third most authentic city in the world."

As you cross the river, you will enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding houses and bridges. Snap some pictures of the steeples of the St. Nicolas church, and enjoy a visit to the impressive belfry and cloth hall, both UNESCO World Heritage Sights.

After leaving the church, we'll head to Vrijdgsmarkt, where you will see flamboyant Gothic architecture melding beautifully in with the more somber Renaissance. Here, you'll also find the statue of Jacob Van Artevelde, who oversees a Ghent that thrives just as it did in the 14th century when Jacob ended the English boycott on wool imports.

Continuing on, your guide will point out a cast iron cannon, aptly named the "Evil Woman." Here in the center of town, you will find the almshouse which is now a Museum of Folklore and the only neighborhood in Ghent where the original medieval street plan still exists today.

Winding your way through the alleys and cobbled streets of this area is a great place to enjoy life in the old country, and the smiling faces of the locals will surely make you feel at home. We'll even stop for a three course lunch along the way, before heading by boat to the MSK (Museum of Fine Arts) and the SMAK (Museum for contemporary and avant-garde).

You will transfer back to Brussels around 17:00 and should be back at your hotel by around 18:00.
