Full description

Embark on a day trip to Antwerp, Belgium’s diamond and fashion capital, city of Peter Paul Rubens, and the current second biggest port of Europe. Start your visit at the Central Train Station, known as the ‘iron cathedral’ and considered one of the most beautiful railway stations in the world. Visit the diamond and jewelry district and the Portuguese synagogue.

Next, go to “The Meir”, Antwerp’s main shopping street and where you can admire fashion stores in a beautiful architectonical setting. See “Meir Palace”, a Rococo mansion that was Napoleon’s palace. Taste artisanal coffee and handmade chocolate in what is now one of the most famous chocolate shops in Belgium. Visit Rubens’ house and learn a quick history of his work and contribution to Flemish art. Go to the Cathedral of Our Lady, which is the largest Gothic church in the Low Countries, and admire its north tower. Inside, contemplate an art collection that includes four masterpieces of Paul Peter Rubens. Visit the Baroque pulpit with a wooden sculpture of Pocahontas, and beautiful stained glasses.

See Saint Charles Borromeo church, a jewel of Baroque architecture in the city which houses one of the most beautiful Baroque confessionals in the world. Walk to“Het Steen”, a medieval castle located in the city’s ancient port, where you can admire the Scheldt River and view a sunset next to the water.

Enjoy some Leisure time to visit museums, eating a meal, and shopping, before returning to Brussels.

The company put me with an English speaking guide once we arrived in Antwerp which I believe showed good awareness and planning. Both Isola and Luisa if I remember correctly were excellent. My guide in Antwerp was very knowledgeable, passionate about the city and excited to share as much as possible in the time.

Lilly, our guide was fantastic. We were disappointed that we could not visit the diamond district and workshop. We picked this tour instead of the Antwerp/Ghent tour because of this visit. We understand that it is closed. In that case, your description on the tour page should have been updated by removing the diamond district/workshop visit. Also, the description said "Visit Ruben's house", but, we were told that we had to pay for that separately and visit at our leisure time. This could have been specified in the "Know before you go" like it is specified that the Cathedral of our Lady is an extra 6 Euros.

Our tour guide was great and did her best to answer all out questions! We got to see a lot of Antwerp and learned much about it. We had a small group (only 10 English speakers) and everyone was friendly and on time at meeting points. We even acquired 2 of them as new friends! We rode the train from/to Brussels with a small group of Spanish speakers but they toured Antwerp separately. We checked the train fare 2 days before and it would have cost us $7 less than the tour price per person. So basically, we got a tour guide for $7, learning as much as we could and not having to do our own research and not having to navigate the city on our own. And I got to visit a diamond factory/showroom. They did not push us at all to buy. No pressure. All in all, great value for the price! And I was pleasantly surprised about Antwerp. There's more to the city than diamond merchants :).
