Explore the one-to-remember panoramic journey on the Glacier Express offered by Schweizerische Bundesbahnen through the Swiss Alps - with highlights from start to finish. St. Moritz is the playground of the rich and famous and Zermatt is home to the world's most photographed mountain, the Matterhorn. Aboard the slowest express train in the world and enjoy the 8-hour journey taking passengers over 291 bridges and through 91 tunnels. From cosmopolitan St. Moritz the train snakes its way through the Albula Valley over the famous Landwasser Viaduct. Or start your trip in Davos Platz and take the regional train across the Wiesen Viaduct to Filisur where the Glacier Express will be waiting for you. Your trip then continues in the Glacier Express through the Rhine Gorge, Switzerland’s very own Grand Canyon.

It has been a fascinating experience and the train is spectacular. Availability could improve, even if it is a snack included in the ticket.

The GE train travels on many of the same lines as the regional express trains (Zermatt to St Moritz) which makes the train service difficult to differentiate. I must say, staff were friendly and accomodating. Considering what you pay, the RE trains are much better value, modern, and a very clean and pleasant ride. Interestingly, you can open the windows to take scenic photos which on the GE, unfortunately is not an option and your photos will have lots of lighting reflections. The key difference is the GE serves a full menu and alcohol at your seat, but it is expensive. I suggest use the RE trains which have a great ride at far less cost.
