Then walk about 20 minutes or drive with a jeep to the observatory where you can observe the bears as they go about their everyday life. Take photos of the bears interacting, playing, and resting.  After about two hours, return to the vehicle and get dropped off back at your hotel in Brasov with wonderful memories of these amazing creatures.

Brasov: Brown Bear & Wildlife Watching

2. Brasov: Brown Bear & Wildlife Watching

Head deep in the forests surrounding Brasov. The vehicle that will pick you up and bring you to the forest will stop approximately 200-300 meters away from the observation hide. Walk for a short distance to the hide and then wait quietly, for the wildlife to come out. Everything is real and wild. Please note that there is no 100% guarantee that you will spot any wildlife, but statistically, there are very high chances to spot brown bears, and also lynx, foxes, wolves, and wild boars. Once the sun is setting and it is getting darker, start making your way back and return to Brasov, as you will not be able to see anything in the dark and walking through the forest during the night can be dangerous. The meeting time is set according to the dusk time and can, therefore, vary a little. The starting time for this adventure runs from 6 PM in mid-summer time to 3 PM in November, when the days have already become very short.

Bear watching in the Land of Volcanoes

8. Bear watching in the Land of Volcanoes

You will begin your guided day trip in the afternoon when you are picked up from your hotel in Brasov and driven 43 miles (70km) to Tusnad. Then, together with your guide, you will meet an expert ranger who will take you deep into the forest to the bear hides. The hides have been built by professional wildlife photographers and are 100% safe. Because they contain a mirror-like window blocking the animals’ view of the inside, the bears sometimes come as close as one meter away from your enclosure.  Once inside the hide, you will wait quietly for the bears to arrive and learn interesting facts about their behavior while sipping on Palinka, a regional alcoholic drink. Once the bears arrive, be sure you have your camera ready with the flash turned off to take amazing photos of these majestic animals in their natural habitat. If you are lucky and nothing alarms the bears, you will have ample time to observe and take plenty of photos.  Finally, just before dusk, you will be returned safely back to your vehicle to be driven back to Brasov and dropped off at your hotel.

This is a brilliant tour option for anyone who wants to get the most out of a day in Transylvania from Bucharest! We started the day at 7 and had a full day of activities across the sanctuary, castle and Brasov. We had the most amazing tour guide in Dan who was so friendly and answered all of our questions and told us everything we needed to know about the area! Dan truly is an asset to the company and made us feel so at home with him. Nicolas was also great, calling us shortly after our booking to give us all the extra details of the day ahead. Really fantastic day and couldn’t have asked for anything more. Dan even gave us great recommendations on food to eat and and places to visit in Bucharest for the rest of our trip! Thank you for a great tour and we would highly recommend to anyone!! No other tour options like this in the area.

Excellent trip. The guy - Trayan, was very kind and easy-going. He picked us at the exact time with a very nice Mercedes van. We saw several bears - three males and one female with two cubs. The observation was for about one and a half hours in a cosy cabinet. Everything was perfect. Strongly recommend!

Amazing activity, we saw 2 male bears and a fox. They were honest and they warn us that it was possible to see nothing. I'm very glad we didn't cancel the tour.

Nicolas was a fantastic host, very knowledgable and nothing was too much trouble for him. Would highly recommend.

Nice tour, nice guide. Success rate 100% Three large males seen. Highly recommended. Gladly again.
