Continue to Roussillon via the Roman-era Pont Julien. Roussillon, perched atop an ochre-colored cliff, is a favorite of painters, and a magical place where combinations of oxides give the ochre an infinite variety of colors. Gordes offers an extraordinary vision of a stone village erected on a massive rock. Its fortress castle and church dominate the houses of the village, which were built with stones taken from the rock on which they sit.

Travel from Aix-en-Provence to Luberon valley on a full-day tour of the area's charming and unique villages. Make your way to L'Isle sur la Sorgue, and wander through the open-air provincial market, and along the canals, taking time to stop in the various antique shops (on Sunday only). Enjoy the exceptional hilltop village of Gordes (it has a market on Tuesday) and stop to snap photos at a panoramic viewpoint. Afterward (from mid-June to mid-July only) stop for photos of the blooming lavender fields at Senanque Abbey. In this charming village, you will have a look at the famous Renaissance castle, considered a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture style (traditional open air market every Friday morning). Continue to the hilltop village of Bonnieux through the picturesque and winding route called the Combe of Lourmarin, which crosses the Luberon's mountain from south to north. Have free time in the village overlooking the Luberon hill range. Continue toward the colorful village of Roussillon and its ochre cliffs, you will be impressed by all the different ochre color use to paint the buildings and houses of the village. Great place for photographers. (traditional open air market every Thursday morning). Free time for lunch on your own. The last stop will be in Gordes, which ranks among the most beautiful villages in France, where you will do a photo stop at the panoramic point of view facing this surprising perched village. Enjoy the breathtaking view from there.

Enjoy the panoramic view of the surroundings and the Rhône River, Pont d'Avignon by walking up to the top of the fortified city walls and Rochers des Doms. Visit the largest gothic-style Popes’ Palace whereby successive popes resided between 1309 and 1377. Continue on to the Place de l'Horloge, the Town Hall and the Theatre. Enjoy a glass of Côtes du Rhône wineserved in a place close to the palace. (operated only in english). Discover the village of Roussillon and its colorful houses. Take a look at Pont Julien, from the Roman time. Drive through the village of Lacoste, where you will see the remains of the castle of the Marquis de Sade. Free time in the dry-stone built hilltop village of Gordes. NB : participants will be required to walk on cobblestone streets and climb many flights of steps during the tour. Therefore, comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Lunch on your own in Avignon after the walking tour.

Start your day of discovery with a convenient pick-up service from your driver/guide. You will be met in the lobby of your accommodation in Provence, or from your cruise ship departure terminal. After a short meet and greet with your friendly driver, you will take a brief, scenic drive toward the hilltop villages of the Luberon, where your day's activities will commence.  Upon your arrival in Luberon, your guide will get you acquainted with this magnificent location with a sightseeing tour of some of the villages' most beautiful landmarks. Stroll through Luberon and witness the village of Gordes, considered one of the most beautiful villages in all of France. See the Cistercien abbey of Sénanque and marvel at the infamous red and yellow ochre color palette of the county of Roussillon. Whilst here, enjoy a spot of wine tasting and taste the wine that is famously manufactured in this region.  At lunch, participants are free to pick a beautiful place to sit and have a picnic whilst marveling at the view surrounding them. Alternatively, you can choose to have a restaurant booking made on your behalf - the choice is all yours!  Enjoy the views of Bonnieux and Saignon, a location that will grant you spectacular views of the valley from a high vantage point. Shortly after this, you will get to see a lavender distillery, a feast for the senses awaits you here. You will finish your day off in comfort with a trip back to your accommodation or cruise terminal in your private, air-conditioned vehicle.
