Full description

Explore the unique travertine terraces of Pamukkale (literally “Cotton Castles” in Turkish), and enjoy a full-day trip to one of Turkey’s most popular attractions.

Depart Bodrum and transfer by air-conditioned coach to Pamukkale, known as the “8th Wonder of the World” to those in the know. Explore the natural landscape of limpid pools, hot springs, and travertine, terraces of carbonate minerals left by flowing water.

Inscribed by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site in 1988, Pamukkale attracts some 2 million visitors every year. Get a view of the terraces from the hills on the opposite side of the valley in the town of Denizli.

Then, go to the ruins of the ancient Greek-Roman city of Hierapolis, built on top of the “Cotton Castles” in the 2nd century BC. See the remains of the Roman amphitheater, and visit the former Turkish Bath, now converted into an archaeological museum.

Discover where Cleopatra used to swim, and the monumental tomb of the Christian apostle St. Philippe. Marvel at the Necropolis of Anatolia, filled with sarcophagi, most notably that of Marcus Aurelius Ammianos.

The site is totally worth to visit: I don't think there is anywhere in the world that looks like the "cotton castle", and the archaeological site of hierapolis is so well preseved!! However the place is immense, hot and crowded with turists. Ideally it would be better if you go in a cold season (the pools would be full of water and the lack of shades in the ruins wouldn't bother you), stay in pamuukkale over night, visit the pools early morning (the dawn there must be amazing), and take the whole day to visit the ancient city. What I'm saying that this excursion is better than nothing; however it takes almost 4 hour drive from bodrum and you only stay there 3hrs that are NOT enough. You feel rushed the whole time. Moreover the lunch wasn't the best and the stops at the leather and stones industries were interesting but not what you paid for considering the time restraint. However very comfy coach and nice guide. They will leave you to visit the site alone at your own pace.

Very long day with an early start (pick up at the hotel at 5:45 am - arrive at the hotel in the evening around 10:15 pm). Air-conditioned bus and then it's about 4 hours over 5 high mountains (the highest is 2,000 m) to Pamukkale or Hierapolis. Shortly before that, a 1/2 hour stop at an onyx factory with jewelry etc. (prices in €!!!). Pamukkale itself is absolutely worth seeing and the view is fantastic. You can touch history around every corner in the UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE. A refreshing Cleopatra bath can be booked for €8. After a good 3 hour stay, we continue to lunch (mass processing in a short time) and then a visit to a leather factory with a fashion show (shouldn't have been more). Pamukkale is absolutely stunning and worth seeing. Annoying are the shuttles from the hotels to the collection point and changing to the assigned buses (on this day 4 large buses from Bodrum) on the return trip. Then 2 hours are gone quickly. Otherwise nice day tour at 38 degrees.

We really enjoyed the tour, especially on site! It is wonderful. We had 3 hours on site in Pamukkale. This is enough to see most of it, but you could definitely stay there much longer. I would have liked to have had more time here and left out the stops on the way there and back in the stone and leather shop. These were only for sale. Toilet breaks would have been enough for me. Otherwise everything was pretty well organized and it was a nice tour.
