Full description
Enjoy a combination tour and meet your friendly guide in Bluff. Take a short trip to Sand Island where you will learn how to paddle a kayak and participate in a short safety orientation with a professional guide. Kayak on the San Juan River and have your guide lead you down the river. Float 8 miles paddling your own kayak or a tandem kayak if you wish.  Float along towering sandstone cliffs where you can see different types of birds. Enjoy a few stops to take short, easy hikes that will take you to ancient archaeological sites including one of the largest rock art panels in North America and a 1,000-year-old cliff dwelling.  Enjoy a wilderness expedition that allows you to avoid the crowds. See the Big Kachina Panel known as Lower Butler Wash panel that has rock art dating back to 2000 B.C.  Have a delicious lunch on the riverbank, then jump in the Hummer and cruise up a 4×4-only road to see a two-story famous cliff dwelling called River House Ruin. Get up close and personal with a cliff dwelling reminiscent of Mesa Verde National Park.  Listen to your guide teach you about the different rooms and architecture of this one-of-a-kind site. After, go back along Comb Ridge and part of the Historic Hole in the Rock Pioneer trail.  Enjoy a fun rollercoaster ride along Comb Ridge as the road crosses the wash more times than you can count. Weave in and out of tamarisk and willows as you head back into Bluff.
