Full description
Welcome to the big island of Hawaii. The Hawaiians say Mauna Kea is the connection between the land and the sky, and if you take a look at it you will understand why. You will begin your journey at any of the many different pickup points on both the Kona and the Hilo side. From there, ride in the spacious, air conditioned 4x4 passenger van up Mauna Kea. You'll learn about Hawaii, especially about Mauna Kea, which is the tallest oceanic mountain in the world. As you ascend to 9,200 feet you'll become acclimatized to the altitude before having dinner. Following dinner, you'll visit the Ellison Onizuka visitors center.

Later, continue your journey to the peak of the mountain (13,803 feet) where you will learn about the largest most powerful observatories in the world. You can view the amazing sunset and take beautiful pictures of the dusk sky, before traveling a short distance to a secluded star-viewing area.

As the stars come out, your guides will serve some hot chocolate or tea to warm you up, and if you are hungry there will also be noodles available. You'll learn about different constellations from your knowledgeable tour guides, and can view the moon and Jupiter, and could even see the rings of Saturn through a powerful Celestron telescope. You'll get a beautiful astrophotography picture taken of you which you will receive later via email, before you return to your hotel with a smile on your face.
