Unleash your artistic skills and join a traditional woodcarving workshop in Bhaktapur. Bhaktapur is world-famous for its woodcarvings and you can learn in the epicenter of this craft's production at the side of an expert Nepalese carver!
What to Expect
Adorning an ordinary building or representing the visage of an important god, Bhaktapur's woodcarvings are unmissable as you trail the city's streets. The prevalence of this particular craft comes as no surprise when you learn that in the Bhaktapur district alone there are more than 500 active wood crafters. Today, get to know Bhaktapur's best-cultivated art at the side of a master woodcrafter!
At the start of the workshop you will be given an introduction to woodcarving and learn the different techniques and instruments used. Following your introduction, the carving master will demonstrate the use of the different instruments and guide you in their correct use. Once you understand the basics you will start working on your own woodcraft! Depending on whether you choose the single or 2-day workshop you will either carve your own name or create the "om."
During the day guests will enjoy a simple Nepali meal provided in the family home of an artisan.
