Full description
Visit the Gemäldegalerie in Berlin, one of the world's most important collections of European painting from the 13th to the 18th century. Admire masterpieces from all periods of art history, including paintings by Jan van Eyck, Pieter Bruegel, Albrecht Dürer, Raphael, Titian and Peter Paul Rubens. Study mainly German and Italian paintings from the 13th to the 16th, and the Dutch paintings from the 15th to the 17th century. Admire the Gemäldegalerie's interesting new building in an austere Prussian style, and stroll through the simple structure, with its rooms grouped around a bright foyer. From the large Wandelhalle, a place of peace and reflection with a fountain installation by Walter De Maria, you will always be able to return back to the exhibition rooms.

I don't prefer audio or in-person guides, so I didn't use those options. But this is a magnificent museum presenting the old masters, especially Dutch & Flemish, and I loved every minute of it, even though it's a bit challenging to find one's way through the room numbers. Also, the museum was transparent about the fact that some rooms were closed for renovations of lighting, etc., which was a very helpful warning for me, and they also made sure to have available for viewing the main highlights of collections from closed rooms. Loved the experience (which I took in right after using my timed tickets to the Neue Nationalgalerie, a museum that could hardly be more different, yet is also stupendous). Go!

I went straight up the audio guide centre where the lady gave me a headset and directed me to the garderobe and lockers (you use 1 euro to use a locker, but you get it back). Then you just head straight to the gallery and have your voucher scanned at the door. No queuing! Dont trust google for closing time... and also grab a map! You will need it.
