What to Expect
Experience Berlin more like a local at a unique home dinner in a private home. Your host, who is also a photographer and works in a Portuguese wine shop, loves making people happy through food, and pays close attention to all the little details.
Mexican by birth, she believes that to understand a culture you must try its food. In the case of Mexican food, much has been "Americanized" or adulterated to form Tex-Mex. But food is one of the most important aspects of Mexican culture, and to preserve its authenticity, you are invited to experience a real Mexican meal and to chat about the traditions and different ingredients of the vast nation.
Whether you are a taco lover, or want to savor some real guacamole then this experience is a "must do." Held in a spacious apartment outside the Ringbahn Tempelhof, the menu typically includes appetizers of guacamole or pico de gallo (tomato, onion, lime juice and cilantro) with tortilla chips, or queso fundido con champiñones (melted cheese with mushrooms).
Sample an authentic tostada de pollo con verduras (fried tortilla with chicken and vegetables), or frijoles churros (beans with chorizo, bacon and ham). Move onto a main course of black beans with red rice and tacos (corn tortilla with beef and/or chicken), or enchiladas (lightly fried tortilla filled with chicken or cheese and topped with a "salsa" or mole). Savor the authentic flavors of tacos de puntas de filete al albañil (strips of juicy beef with poblano pepper, bacon and onion).
For dessert, sample a typical flan, lemon pie, arroz con leche (rice, cinnamon and milk), or pastel de tres leches (vanilla cake made with 3 different kind of milk).
- 3-course Mexican meal of a "botana" (appetizer), "plato fuerte" (main course), and "postre" (dessert)
- Mexican-style drinks made from fruit ("agua fresca")
- Wine from the Baja region of Mexico
