Full description
Meet your guide in front of Starbucks at Friedrichstrasse 61. Embark on a 4-hour private walking tour and explore divided Berlin of the Cold War era. Follow a local guide with personal memories of the Berlin Wall and its fall in 1989. You will first stop at Checkpoint Charlie. This is the most famous border crossing and the one mostly used by the allied military.

Hear stories about the people who attempted to escape from the East, which mostly ended in death. Your guide will tell you the haunting stories of this turbulent era. You will also hear the brief story about the tank confrontation of 1961, one of the events for which Checkpoint Charlie is so famous. From here, the tour moves to the Palace of Tears, a lesser-known landmark.

This is another former crossing point with a poignant history. You will learn about the divided transport system and hear the stories of "ghost stations." Bernauer Straße is the next stop the only remaining spot where the Wall still exists in its original setting. At this spot you will find out how the system was organized and also, with the help of personal accounts and memoirs, attempt to understand what inhabitants truly thought of the Wall at the time.

At Bösebrücke, the Wall finally came down on November 9, 1989. You will visit the memorial there and learn what made the guards suddenly open their gates. As there are also plentiful interesting landmarks along the way, your guide will be happy to customize the tour based on your interests and wishes.
