Full description

The Berlengas archipelago is situated 16km west of Peniche, a powerful granite block which belongs to the parish of St. Peter, in the Peniche municipality. The archipelago is a protected area that includes various nature reserves and is considered a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2011. Depart from the harbor of Peniche and enjoy a 30-minute ferry ride along the turquoise sea waters. Arrive at the Berlengas harbor from where you will be able to freely explore the archipelago. Start with a visit to the São João Baptista fort built in the 17th-century. This little fort is one of the most visually striking buildings in Portugal. After this, go for a swim at Praia do Carreiro do Mosteiro, the only beach that is accessible and safe to swim from. Next, find the café and restaurant on the island before taking the ferry back to Peniche

Know before you go

  • On June 1st, 2022, according to Ordinance no. 19/2022 from January 5th, a tourist tax has started by ICNF with the purpose of controlling the human load on Berlenga Island. When you buy the ticket to the boat, it is mandatory that you pay the tourist tax on berlengaspass.icnf.pt
  •  The 12 PM trip is on a smaller boat called "AzulOrizonte" that makes the trip in 40 minutes  Please exchange your voucher for a physical ticket before departure.
  • It's advisable to bring plenty of water as it can get very hot.

NOS LLOVIÓ, PERO AÚN ASÍ NOS HAN LLEVADO A VER LAS CUEVAS SIN PROBLEMA INCLUSO MOJÁNDOSE ELLOS. MUY PUNTUALES LO CUAL SE AGRADECE MUCHO. CUIDADO CON LA HORA, PONE DE 10 A 14, PERO 14 ES LA RECOGIDA EN LA ISLA DE VUELTA A PENICHE. NO LLEGAS A PENICHE A LAS 14. LO ACLARO PARA QUIEN HAGA PLANES LUEGO.

Merece mucho la pena visitar las islas, altamente recomendable!. Nosotros no habíamos contratado la excursión a las cuevas, aunque pudimos hacerlo sobre la marcha, pero por si acaso cogedla también. Llevar gafas de bucear para poder ver en las aguas cristalinas es muy recomendable, aunque el agua está fría por lo que no se aguanta mucho.

La experiencia en general y el viaje en catamarán bien. No recomendable si te mareas con facilidad. También te ofrecen un paseo en barco con fondo de cristal para ver unas cuevas. Realmente el fondo de cristal es una ventana en el suelo del barco, apenas se ven peces y el fondo que se ve no es muy interesante. Sí que vale la pena hacerlo por recorrer la isla desde el mar, vistas muy bonitas. El resto de la experiencia correcta, como lo esperado.
