The catamaran transfer from Peniche to Berlengas was efficient, enjoyable, and well-organized. I appreciated the communication from the staff. When you check in, they give you a map of the island with points of interest to visit and trails to follow, and they are clear about the timing and meeting point for the return trip. On the boat, they give announcements in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, which I think is very helpful. Unfortunately, when I was following one of the designated paths on the island, seagulls started diving at my head, and one actually hit me in the head, leaving a bruise. I left the path as quickly as possible and went to one of the cafes, where I mentioned this to an employee. He told me that it is the seagulls’ reproductive season, so they are aggressively protective at this time of year. I feel strongly that the guide companies should make an announcement about this and warn visitors in advance so they know to what to expect and don’t get attacked by surprise.
