Trace the history of this once-rural island on the verge of becoming a ghost town. See how Naoshima is now a world-class center for contemporary art due in large part to contributions from Japan's top architects, including museums, a boutique hotel, and a bathhouse. The area features a captivating result of avant-garde blending with rural natural beauty. Choose to visit the most popular places in Naoshima. Experience the Art House Project in Naoshima's Honmura district, where you'll discover how artists take empty houses and turn them into works of art. Visit the Chichu Art Museum and learn how its concept rethinks the relationship between nature and people. View internationally-acclaimed artworks inside the Lee Ufan Museum and experience how they resonate with Ando's architecture, giving visitors an impression of both stillness and dynamism.  Enjoy the views of the Seto Inland Sea from Benesse House Museum's high vantage point. Explore the coexistence of nature, art, and architecture through the facility's large apertures, designed by Tadao Ando, which open up the interior to the splendid natural surroundings. Enjoy art and a bath at the same time at Naoshima Bath, created by artist Shinro Ohtake. Experience the cultural exchange of locals and internationals at this unique art facility. Visit Teshima Art Museum, which stands on a hill on the island of Teshima overlooking the Seto Inland Sea. Immerse yourself in its fusion of architectural beauty and exceptional art.
