Full description

Learn about the communist era of Serbia, which lasted from the end of World War II to the late 1990s, on a guided tour of Belgrade. Meet your guide at Republic Square, the place where Josip Broz Tito's inspiring speech proclaimed the birth of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Hear conspiracy theories and urban legends from the 2nd half of the 20th century as you learn about the fall and rise of communism in Yugoslavia. See socialistic grey edifices belonging to the constructivism era mixed with numerous monuments from the era of the Yugoslavian Kingdom.

Arrive at Terazije Square and hear about the glamorous holidays and festivities which were often celebrated here. See Hotel Moskva, and learn about the world-known celebrities and atypical guests who once stayed in its rooms. Make your way to Nikola Pašić Square, which was once known as the square of Marx and Engels. Note its Trade Union Hall and learn about the cult of work which was emphasized during the communist era. At Pioneer's Park, learn how Tito's regime was the most liberal of all countries within the communist system. See the monument of Ivo Andrić, a Nobel Prize-winning Serbian writer and a Serbian ambassador to Berlin at the beginning of World War II. Afterward, catch a trolley, a mode of public transportation used during the communist era which is still active today. Discover the district of Belgrade, Dedinje, famous for numerous embassies and residential villas.

Visit the complex of the Museum of Yugoslavia, which is devoted to the life and deeds of Josip Broz Tito, the famous leader revered as an outstanding man who led the country to a bright future. In the museum see a stunning collection of ceremonial gifts given to the Yugoslavian president, one of the most valued being a gift from the crew of Apollo 11. At the end of the tour, stop at the mausoleum known as the House of Flowers where Tito is buried.

I booked this trip but unfortunately there were not enough travellers, so it was rearranged for me to join the guided walking tour of Belgrade. I had the same tour guide for that who does this Red Communism tour. Nebojsa was a great tour guide and very knowledgeable about the history of Belgrade and he was very accommodating in trying to pack as much in of the Red Communism tour as he could especially for me. I really appreciated his efforts for this. He was very enthusiastic about sharing his knowledge of the history of Belgrade. I would definitely recommend taking a tour with Nebojsa.

The tour was educational and enjoyable. Our guide Nebojsa was very knowledgeable and candid in his sharing. It felt like he was a friend showing us around. I recommend anyone interested in the history of Yugoslavia and the Serbian perspective to take this tour.

Dagrana our guide was amazing. She explained very clearly all the history and even shared some personal anecdotes which was very nice for her to share. The only part I didn't like about the tour was that the museum price was not included in the overall tour price. the museum is a mandatory stop that is 2 hours of the total tour. if it is not optional it should be included in my opinion.
