Full description
The tour starts with a 2-hour drive toward Eastern Serbia, enjoying the beautiful landscapes and listening to interesting stories about this part of the country. The first stop is Golubac fortress, a defensive complex which used to defend many kingdoms through centuries. Golubac is the perfect fairy-tale castle, wonderfully set off by its location in the rugged landscape at the head of Đerdap Gorge. There are nine towers in all, each between 20 and 25m high, and combined with the interesting position of the fortress leaning over the Danube. They make Golubac undoubtedly one of the most beautiful castles along the 2,850km Danube odyssey from source to the Black Sea. Proceed the adventure towards the widest flow Danube river has, the famous Iron Gate. Its sheer size leaves no one untouched as the Danube suddenly gives the impression of the sea. After around 30 minutes of driving, reach the next stop, Lepenski Vir. The early settlement of Lepenski Vir was first uncovered in 1965. The works brought to light sacred architecture and monumental sculptures from one of the oldest Danube cultures, dating back to 7,000-6,000 BC, also marking the beginning of civilization in Europe. See more than 100 items (utensils, tools, and instruments, jewelry, altars, sculptures, Neolithic ceramics) illustrating the Mesolithic and Neolithic periods in Lepenski Vir. The setting also involves the reconstruction of burial methods in Lepenski Vir and a holographic reconstruction of houses in Lepenski Vir. After the museum, stop in a unique, authentic restaurant with a fantastic view overlooking the Danube to enjoy a traditional lunch made of specialties of the cuisine of Eastern Serbia. Return to Belgrade in the evening hours.

I booked a private tour but the agency, for some reasons unknown to me, requested that I go with the group and offered me another tour to Novi Sad to compensate for the inconvenience (the guide missed me though I spent an hour waiting for him on the agreed spot. they refunded me a portion of the price) but I would not let this incident affect my admiration first tour. the work of nature hugs the work of men in the scenic view that accompanied us through the road. our main guide jelica who was native to the very soul of the place dancing to its heartbeat. She is professional yet that girlish spontaneity of her adds flavor to her work. I would not have any other person tell me the story of the captive Byzantine Princess and her pigeons and how the pigeons tried to save a martyr of love cast on a forlorn rock by her lustful captor. the museum experience was also fantastic as we were able to discover the origins of human civilization in the Balkan region and probably eastern Europe.

Traveled in December 2020. I booked a group tour, but since it was low season for tourism, the group did not get together. I was offered to go alone for an additional 50% of the cost. My guide Mihajlo was kind and told me a lot of interesting facts about life in Serbia. He also treated me to a traditional meal. Thank you for a great trip, everything was perfect.

Alexander was a GREAT guide. Very knowledgeable and transferred a lot of information in an interesting way. Also enjoyed the lunch. My only complaint, you don’t actually go to the iron gate (the narrowest part of the river).
