Know before you go

  • Admission is free at National Museums and Monuments on Sundays and holidays for residents of Portugal
  • Belém Tower opening hours are 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM, October to May; and 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, May to September
  • The Last admission is at 5:00 PM
  • The tower is closed on Mondays, and January 1, Easter Sunday, May 1, June 13, and December 25
  • There is only one entrance to get inside the tower and there might be lines
  • You will receive a PDF voucher in the booking confirmation email. This voucher needs to be presented at the entrance of the Monastery

The 1 hour wait despite having a ticket was worth it. There are waiting times in the tower again because the stairs are too narrow and security regulates going up and down. It's a shame that you can't visit the last floor. You end up in a room and basically go straight back down.

At the beginning we thought that there was no need to pay entry. But the view from the platform is very nice. A point deduction for the unnecessary waiting time on the two upper floors. Anyway, you wait in line outside for one to two hours to get in... apparently 40-50 people are let in and they wait until that many more leave the tower. I would recommend everyone to just go up to the observation deck and then leave the tower. Otherwise you'll stand in line forever, even inside, and you won't have anything worth seeing inside, nor can you see anything from the windows.

Great medieval tower. The visit is worth it, but you have to plan for a long waiting time because there are no assigned entry time slots. Only a limited number of tickets are sold, so it is advisable to book this attraction in advance.
