Great Wall Hiking: Small Group

1. Great Wall Hiking: Small Group

your guide will meet you at 8am and then drive to Simatai West. You will start the hiking around 10:30am, and it will take about 3 hours to complete. A lunch at a local farmer’s restaurant will be organized after the hiking before returning to the city. This section offers arguably the finest hiking anywhere on the Great Wall. It is extremely photogenic, with over 15 watch-towers, and steep gradients that give constantly changing perspectives and wide, open views. There is fascinating variety in the watch-towers here. Some have two storeys, others three. Some have flat roofs, others rounded and others again are pitched with upturned eaves. This section of the wall is wild, ruined, preserved and original. On a clear day, it is difficult to fail to take good photographs here.

Mutianyu Great Wall Full-Day Group Tour

2. Mutianyu Great Wall Full-Day Group Tour

The full-day group tour begins between 6:30 AM and 7:00 AM with a pickup from your hotel within the second ring road of Beijing. Drive from there to the Ming Tombs, the underground mausoleum of Emperor Zhudi. Enjoy a typical Chinese lunch and visit a jade carving factory. After lunch, continue to the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall. This is one of the best-preserved sections of the Great Wall, and at one time served to defend the capital and the imperial tombs. To reach the highest point on this part of the wall, a cable car ride is a good choice (not included in the tour price). Before returning to your Beijing hotel, enjoy Chinese tea ceremony at a teahouse. Arrive at your hotel at around 17:00 PM.

What an amazing day! We had wonderfully blue skies and very little wind on our hike from Simatai to Jinshanling. Tau was a fantastic guide. He provided great insight to the wall, region, history, and peoples. He made sure everyone was comfortable with the pace and had plenty of time for photos whenever we liked. Mind you, there are a lot of stairs to climb on this 15 tower trek, but they are doable and so worth it. ADDED BONUS: I didn’t expect too much from the included lunch after reading previous reviews, but it was one of our favorite meals during our stay in China! Highly recommended!

We really enjoyed this tour! The forbidden city was very interesting and we were given just enough time to see the important parts. We were also taken to tea presentation that was impressive to watch and we liked it. The Great Wall at the end of the day was amazing. We went up on the cable car and down the toobogan. So much fun, will definitely recommend. If I'm being picky, I just wished we had stayed less time at the Jade store (45min) and more time at the Great Wall (1.30hr). Lunch was great too though!

My guide is as Sabrina and she was great! I think that the guide is very important in a tour and can make the difference between amazing and ok :) Even though I traveled some, I felt like the entire group was one team! The tour was excellent length for winter time (but cold outside than I am used to). Probably in the summer is worth taking one full day in the wall for tracking.

Leon, went above amd beyond with these tour. I been in many different ones around the world...& front first hand this one has been a great experience i have the chance I would repeat the same tour again. Gracias leon for your patience with my group.

Leon, our guides, has been really kind with us. He guided us all day long, his tour has been full and detailed.
