Explore a less crowded section of the Great Wall of China at Mutianyu on an 8-hour sightseeing tour to the top for panoramic views of the Yanshan Mountains. Visit the Temple of Heaven in central Beijing to learn about the Ming and Qing dynasties.
What to Expect
This combined full-day tour of the Great Wall of China and the Temple of Heaven takes you to Beijing's northern countryside, where you will enjoy the relaxing hills and streams of the Yanshan Mountains at a slow-paced section of the Great Wall..
Your guide will meet you at your hotel in the morning to transfer you to the Mutianyu Great Wall, located about 90 minutes from the city center. Upon arrival, you are free to take the cable car to the summit, or hike up to the battlements.
Snake your way through the densely packed watchtowers and crenelated parapets, admiring the Yanshan Mountains as you hike. The wall is much less touristy than the more popular Badaling Wall, and you’ll be spared the hassle of the souvenir vendors.
Then, go to a jade factory to see how intricate cloisonné artifacts are made, according to the ancient technique of decorating metal objects with vitreous enamel. Now is a good time to buy some souvenirs.
After lunch, drive back to Beijing to visit the Temple of Heaven to explore where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties went to worship heaven. Wander around the complex of temples and halls, admiring the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, Imperial Vault of Heaven, and lavish dragon decorations of the Circular Mound Altar.
