Beddgelert

Day 1: Leave London and travel west to the rolling hills of the Cotswolds through England’s prettiest historic villages. Get the best photos and hear the most fascinating local tales. Travel through the Welsh Marches marked out by the ancient Offa’s Dyke. Head into the heart of the Cambrian Mountains and beautiful Elan Valley. Finally, head to the beautiful seaside town and cultural center of Aberystwyth, where you spend the next two nights. Day 2: Travel north into the mountainous Snowdonia National Park. You visit the beautiful village of Beddgelert, where you can see the grave of ‘Gelert’, the legendary dog. Later you travel to Harlech Castle. Built by King Edward I during his conquest of Wales nearly 800 years ago, this mighty fortress still stands overlooking the peaks of Snowdonia and the sea. After a fulfilling day in the mountains, you return to Aberystwyth in the late afternoon. Day 3: Travel around the coast of Cardigan Bay through Aberaeron to New Quay. Explore the picturesque harbor and get the chance to spot dolphins and whales. You then go inland to explore the Dinefwr Estate* (Newton House) and its ruined castle before heading for Wales’s south coast to visit Laugharne, where Dylan Thomas lived for the last few years of his life and wrote the famous play “Under Milk Wood”. From here, it’s a short distance to Tenby, the small, charming seaside town that’ll be your base for two nights. *When the Dinefwr Estate is closed, you visit Carreg Cennen Castle instead. Day 4: See some of Britain’s most gorgeous coastlines at the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Travel to the tiny cathedral city of St Davids for lunch and exploration, and stop in the county town of Pembroke to enter the thick medieval walls of the castle. From here, return to Tenby for a relaxed evening. Day 5: Leaving Tenby in the morning, begin your return journey to London. Head past the industrial cities of South Wales to the outskirts of Cardiff, and visit the outdoor National History Museum. Take the Severn Bridge back into England, and take a break at Castle Combe, a Cotswold village perfect for a relaxed stroll amongst 16th-century ironstone cottages.

Day 1: You leave Manchester and head straight for the border of Wales. Your first stop of the day is Conwy. This little town deserves to win awards for most picture-perfect harbour town. There’s a castle perched by the sea, the ‘world’s smallest house’, and lots of little restaurants boasting the best fish and chips. After you’ve soaked up the sea air, you cross the world’s first modern day suspension bridge across the Menai Straits and onto Anglesey Island. Prior to its construction, cattle farmers would have to persuade their herd to swim across the Menai Straits on their way to market. We head for the most westerly point of North Wales to marvel at the South Stack Lighthouse, sea cliffs, and nature reserve. But that’s not all. You stop in the lovely seaside town of Beaumaris, and also visit the town of Llanfairpwllgwyngyll for a quick photo stop. Then you travel back over the bridge and along the coastline to Llandudno, your overnight stop. Day 2: This morning when you head off, your first stop is to Betws-y-Coed. This beautiful little village is known as the gateway to Snowdonia National Park. Next, sit back and watch Snowdonia’s mountains fly by as you continue onto Harlech Castle. This is one of our favourite castles in the whole of the UK. It boasts epic sea views and an amazingly war-torn history that involves a lot of dynamite. You then venture to one of the most charming and unique villages in Wales, Portmeirion. This town is the brainchild of Welsh architect Clough Williams-Ellis. He wanted to demonstrate how a naturally beautiful location could be developed without spoiling it. The result is a stunning piece of the Mediterranean transported into North Wales. You have free time here to explore and grab a bite to eat. You head back to Llandudno for the evening. Day 3: After breakfast, your first stop is to the Llanberis Slate Museum*. The history of the second largest slate mine on the planet will stay in your memory for a long time. For your lunch stop today, we head to Llangollen. Situated along the River Dee, this little town will steal your heart. Next you’re off to one of England’s most historic towns, Chester. There’s a lot to do here, but we’d advise you just head to the Cathedral, you could spend a whole week in this fine building and not get bored. You arrive back in Manchester in the early evening.

We start out tour after a briefing, and meander through llandudno and its promenade before taking the dive of the orme. A magical drive around Great Orme's one-way road with its spectacular mountain drop off into the sea. This is the longest coastal one way road in the UK. Keep an eye out for rock climbers on the limestone cliffs, fishermen casting off the rocks, an abundance of wildlife, birds, wild goats, and often dolphins and seals, as well as views towards the Snowdonia mountains and Anglesey. We pass through the ancient village of Conwy where you will get the see one of the most beautiful castle settings in Europe. View the guarding Welsh Dragon of Snowdonia, hidden in woodland over watching for invaders to our lands. (limited parking - if parking space unavailable we have to bypass this stop). Next, you'll head on to Penrhyn Quarry for a chance to see how our mining history has moved with the times and merged with the adrenaline adventure industry of today's generations. Once the world's largest slate quarry to now the world's fastest zip line! We enter the Snowdonia national park, and the glacial valley of Nant FFrancon. The mountains and lakes here start to envelope us, and the scenery takes a dramatic change. Another majestic stop with breathtaking scenery, however next to the lake of Ogwen we learn about a historic find at the lake which is linked to the legend of King Arthur and Excalibur. No visit to Snowdonia would feel complete unless you ventured down into one of its many thousands of mines from all the ages. Here we visit a self guided tour of an old copper mine and its history and workings are revealed. Wonder the quaint mountain village of Beddgelert where you will learn the legend of Gelert the faithful hound and how the village has it historic name. And take a walk to the historic monument where Gelert was laid to rest. Stop at Snowdonia viewpoint. Know as one of the UK's most spectacular views, this 360 panoramic view of snowdonia's horseshoe, gwynant valley and lakes, and the glyder's make it a photographers dream. Another of snowdonias spectacle. Pen y pass is one of Wales most beautiful drives. A V-shaped valley, dramatic scenery on the drive on route to Llanberis. A few minutes walk through woodland are worth the views alone. Dolbadarn Castle, built by the Welsh Prince Llywelyn the Great during the early 13th century is at the base of the Llanberis Pass and overlooks Padarn Lake. The castle was important to both militarily and as a symbol of Llywelyn's power and authority. A quick photo opportunity, looking up the beautiful lake of Padarn towards Mount Snowdon. Built in 1820, the worlds first large scale suspension bridge. Drive over this iconic bridge and a stroll under its arches and surroundings. Drive along the beautiful North Wales coastal road, enjoying the mountains, coastal beaches, and scenic views on our return leg to Llandudno

We depart at 8.30 am, so please be early. After our introduction, we will hop onto our minibus and take a drive around Great Orme's one-way road with its spectacular mountain drop off into the sea. Showcasing nature, wild goats and birdlife, and often we see seals and dolphins, as well as limestone cliffs and caves and stunning views towards the mountains. Amble the ancient and medieval castle town of Conwy to view the castle’s domineering and towering walls, whose magnificent towers stand tall over the beautiful estuary. Walk the marina, and visit the iconic world's first built suspension bridge. You'll never forget your visit to Conwy. Admission is free unless entering the main castle. Take a walk around this world heritage site. After all these years, Caernarfon’s immense strength remains undimmed - a brute of a fortress. History comes alive at Caernarfon in so many ways – along the lofty wall walks, beneath the twin-towered gatehouse, the walk town’s narrow and colorful streets and stylishly redeveloped waterfront of the Menai. Enjoy a tour of Portmeirion, wandering around the colourful renowned Italian style coastal tourist village set in stunning surroundings and gardens. There are shops, cafés, tea-rooms and restaurants. This is best described as an artful and playful village with a fantastic collection of architectural relics. Also known as a romantic, picturesque, relaxing and often enchanting village. A “happy relief” from the “rigid irrationalities and the calculated follies” of the modern world. On the return trip, you'll drive through part of the Snowdonia National Park, where we will get to see some of its dramatic mountains and many lakes. Drive through mountain villages, stunning canyon gorges, and views to remember. Snowdonia viewpoint is one of the most dramatic 360 panoramic viewpoints in the UK. all without having to hike to the summit. Quirky and unique is the only way to describe our next visit. Known as the Ugly House, we stop here to learn of its history and how it came to be. Discover the dramatic and beautifully captivating Swallow Falls. This cascading waterfall is majestic in its setting, where the force of water meets natural beauty. Nestled in this unique location next to the flowing river and bridge, we stop off at the majestic location of Tu-Hwnt-I'r Bont, the second most photographed image in Snowdonia! Next, visit the National Trust’s Craflwyn to learn why there is a dragon on the Welsh flag. We stop here for a paned, which is Welsh for a nice hot cup of tea/coffee, which we provide for you. Take a scenic drive along the Gwynant Valley and over Pen Y Pass for stunning views of Yr Wyddfa (Mount Snowdon). Spend some time in Llanberis with a picnic on the shores of Llyn Padarn. We provide a picnic lunch, so you do not need to spend time and money looking for somewhere to eat. See the stunning views from Dolbadarn Castle and learn about the slate industry and its impact on the area. After lunch, visit the beautiful Nant Ffrancon valley where you can watch people descending the fastest zipline in the world. Take in the classic glacial scenery and towering peaks of the Glyders and Tryfan. Finish off your day with a visit to Swallow Falls and Betws Y Coed before returning down the Conwy Valley.
