See the Independence Square where slaves were sold and Basseterre's churches. Private 2-Hour Walking Tour of Basseterre

6. Private 2-Hour Walking Tour of Basseterre

This 2-hour walking tour takes you to see the important sights in Basseterre. The picturesque capital works to maintain its traditional Caribbean architecture, which was influenced by the Europeans and Africans who came to the island. The historic city of Basseterre is a combination of cultures and history dating back to the indigenous French, then Spanish, and English. The recorded history of Saint Kitts began in 1493 when Christopher Columbus sailed past the island. It is said that Columbus named the island after himself but there is some doubt to the story, he might have really named it after his patron saint. Visit the site of the first company, stroll through the old village of Irish Town, and learn about Pall Mall Square (now known as Independence Square) where slaves were sold on arrival and goods were exchanged or bartered. See the courthouse and the Heritage Museum, and still have time for shopping in the many quaint local shops.

What people are saying about Basseterre

We had a very enjoyable and informative outing with Texas. Not only did he show us the usual highlights of St Kitts, but he complemented his tour with many additional stops. You learn a lot about fauna and botany, try, taste and enjoy the local fruits and herbs. All senses come into play. A highlight of St Kitts and highly recommended!

The crew and beach was wonderful. Only issue was Carnival cruises stay on ship time with was not island time so we missed our first pick up time but the crew picked us us at the later time. Know your times before you book

We were reliably picked up and taken to a very beautiful beach, on the way a short stop at a well-known vantage point, great value for money, would do the trip again

Everything went well. Left on time, enough time. Beach chairs and rum punch included However, the beach section could be better maintained.

Awesome fun day at the beach - amazing service friendly attentive wait staff. Beautiful beach and blue waters. Highly recommend A+
