Maratea: Private Mount Biagio Tour

4. Maratea: Private Mount Biagio Tour

Your tour starts from the highest part of the city, Mount San Biagio. Here you can admire in all its beauty the statue of Christ the Redeemer, a symbol not only of the city of Maratea but of the whole region of Basilicata. The statue of Maratea is 21 meters tall, with a 19-meter arm and a face measuring 3 meters. The statue was made of reinforced concrete covered with a mixture of white cement and Carrara marble, and was created by the artist Bruno Innocenti in 1965. After admiring the statue, your tour continues to the nearby Basilica of San Biagio, patron saint of the town. Popular tradition has it that this church was born by adapting to the Christian cult. The most important work you will discover in the interior is the fresco of the 15th century, which portrays Madonna with a Child, commonly called Madonna of Pomegranate. The tour then continues through a Medieval village, complete with ancient houses with arches and divided only by narrow lanes and small squares paved in local stone.

Giusy, la guida, è semplicemente spaziale! Ti trasmette la passione per la storia e narra della città non solo a livello storico/architettonico ma proprio contestualizzandola e raccontando aneddoti collegati alla letteratura e personaggi storici passati da qui. Tour vivamente consigliato! Doveva durare 2 ore e invece ne è durate 3!

Our guide, Francesco, was really fantastic , friendly and exceptionally experienced. He took us to the Sassi quarters giving loads of details about history and curiosity as well as tips to enjoy further exploring the place. I will be back for sure. Finally a visit to his museum . I highly recommend this guide.

Buona organizzazione, Lorenzo da Noci è stato una guida professionale, gentile e simpatica. Il signore dentro l'agenzia, invece, non brillava per simpatia. Forse era arrabbiato per i suoi motivi...

Esperienz bellissima! Giusy è stata una meravigliosa guida, trasmette una passione incredibile, che dimostra amore per la propria terra. Competenza estrema e simpatia straripante. Alla prossima!

Our guide Giusy is so passionate about her work that our experience was simply great
