The Argentinian guide Jamile was fantastic, super kind and attentive and speaking Portuguese. It is worth the visit with a guide for the explanation of all the points and for showing us points that would go unnoticed. Only the price is very high considering that the entrance to the basilica is free and the climb to the dome costs only €10, which can be purchased there on the spot.

We'd had a horrific experience earlier in the day with a tour we were meant to be on for the Vatican Museums, so we were very nervous about this tour. However, we were wrong to be so sceptical! Our tour guide was called Valerie (or Val) and kept us giggling the entire way around the Basilica. She used to be an archaeologist and was very knowledgeable about everything we saw on the way, keeping us entertained through the queues and cracking jokes. I asked a lot of questions (naturally curious!) and she answered every single one with knowledge and enthusiasm. The Basilica itself and the Dome clime were fantastic, but the experience was definitely made extra special by Val.

A great guide with lots of content. Unfortunately, time was a bit tight. We had officially booked 2 hours, but our guide took us through the dome and church in 1.5 hours - so it was a bit stressful. We chose the 8:45am tour, which was great because it wasn't that busy yet. Finding the meeting point was very easy. Overall we were very satisfied.
