Our tour guide had excellent knowledge of the history of the castle and its ownership over generations and was directing our attention to details we would have missed without her. She also gave information on the structural elements as well as how life was within the families and how the castle had been changed over the years. We found her depth of knowledge made this tour complete and we would recommend taking this tour to more fully understand the richness of its historical significance.

Full description

Explore one of the most famous buildings in Bari, the Norman-Swabian Castle, known for its extensive moat. Go inside this 13th-century castle which has been converted into a museum with your tour guide. Admire the exhibits of jewelry on display and appreciate the sculptures in the Gipsoteca.
Enter the castle with your guide, who specializes in art history. Then, explore the castle to see the central courtyard and the three stone towers outside. Next, go into the Gipsoteca in the west wing of the castle, where you can see plaster copies of famous sculptures and carvings of monuments.
Marvel at these works of art, which were created by Mario Sabatelli and Pasquale Duretti in 1911 to commemorate 50 years of Italian unity. Also, see the exhibits of ceramic tableware, which were excavated from the east wing of the castle. See jewelry in the Minorenni Tower and tour the Norman room.

Francesca was punctual and engaging throughout the tour. She was energetic and sought to ensure we understood more about Bari history as well as the castle. She was also accommodating to our schedule and we had to cut the tour short by a few minutes and she was gracious with our request. Our only regret is that we had to cut short because of another engagement because this was a great castle with quite a few audio/visual demos that really lent to the history. Also the excavation platforms and walkways were great. Plan to spend longer time than the tour if you go to see it all.
