Full description
Your tour will begin as a comfortable minivan picks up you from Bari, at which point you will travel to Matera. You'll the presence of a tour leader to assist you all the time in this stone city, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Matera is one of the most evocative cities in Italy, and was actually chosen as the 2019 European Capital of Culture. Characterized by the famous caves that were inhabited up until the first half of the 900s, Matera consists of two old neighborhoods: Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso. Through these areas you will enjoy a guided walk, with views over the Murgia Materana Park. Your tour guide will show you houses and churches built in the caves, as well as the recently restored cathedral, which was edified starting from the year 1230. The tour leader will leads you inside an ancient cistern, a cave house with an audioguide tour, and in some local shop and have small tastings. You'll have some free time to explore on your own the town with our suggestions about shops, restaurants, monuments. In the afternoon, you will travel back to Bari by minivan.

This is the most relaxing, enjoyable and informative day tour. Nichola is a wonderful guide - personable and professional - he put us all at ease. We enjoyed two tastings and a visit to see a local ceramic artisan at work. Following our tour, Nicola recommended a restaurant, and we all enjoyed a superb meal together. It was one of my best day tours ever.

It was simply perfect! We had a really great day., saw a lot of the most interesting places full of history , visited churches, and a cave museum , heard wonderful stories from our guide Stefania and had good tips from the excellent organizer of the trip Nicola. (Sorry if I spelled the name incorrectly) . I’m overwhelmed by his perfect attitude to us . He even gave us tips for the best places and food for the place from where we came to the excursion. The best organized tour ever!
