Full description
Enjoy an authentic culinary experience in Barcelona, and learn how to cook a classic Spanish meal, or Catalan dishes in a “tapas” style. Available as a morning or evening option, morning tours include a visit to La Boqueria Market on Las Ramblas, one of the most thrilling markets in the city center. Join the chef on a behind-the-scenes tour to meet the vendors; some coming from generations of market traders. Learn about the locally grown produce, and select the ingredients for your cooking class. Once in the kitchen, prepare a 4 course menu of paella, soup, appetizer, and dessert. Every Wednesday morning the class is focused on Catalan flavors, with dishes prepared in "tapas" style. Get hands-on help from professionally trained bilingual Spanish chefs, and follow their tips whether you are an experienced cook or complete novice. Once your dishes are complete, sit down to savor your success, with pairings of Riojan (red) and Galician (white) wines.

This cooking class was absolutely wonderful! The others scheduled for my class backed out at the last minute, so I ended up having a private class. I had a blast learning to make some traditional dishes (Spanish omelette, paella, pa amb tomaquet, squash soup, creme catalan) while getting to know the instructor and his background. Touring the Boqueria with a local was also incredible - he showed me where to look for certain products, how to try them, etc. Plus, it was cool just to watch his interactions with the vendors - many of whom were his friends. It made the experience feel all the more authentic!

I was lucky as I was the sole person on the course that day, and was given a wonderful and informative market tour and cookery lesson by Lala, who kindly worked around my difficulty walking. I would have concerns if I attended a course in a busy period, as there is only one cooking hob, which seems inadequate to me for a hands on experience. But the staff are kindness itself.

After meeting up with the group, we had a short walk to the market where Karina was purchasing all of the items that we were going to need for cooking our meal. Back at the kitchen, each person had an assignment but you could move around and help out anywhere you were interested. We were closely watched to ensure that no one area impacted the meal for all. After the knives went away a few bottles of wine were opened for our enjoyment while the meal cooked. The group them enjoyed a 4-course meal with more wine - amazing. It was the perfect sized group (8) and ideal for couples.
