Full description
Enjoy a small-group day tour from Barcelona to Montserrat and the Penedès wine-growing region. The tour heads out from Plaça Catalunya for the 1-hour drive to Montserrat. There will be plenty of free time to explore Montserrat on your own, but a visit to the sanctuary where the Moreneta is housed is a must! Pilgrims and other visitors have climbed the mountain to visit this sanctuary for nearly 1,000 years. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit the fascinating Museum of Montserrat, and browse its collections that range from the Archaeology of the Biblical East to Modern Painting and Sculpture. A highlight of visiting Montserrat is listening to the voices of Europe’s oldest children’s choir, La Escolania de Montserrat. There are numerous walking and climbing trails on the mountain, ranging from easy strolls to serious hikes. Each trail offers a different perspective on the surrounding landscape, which is dotted with small chapels and hermitages. If you'd rather not walk at all, then another option is to take one of the2 rack railways or the cable car, which provide stunning views of the area as well. After the morning in Montserrat, the tour heads to Penedès, a wine-growing region where you'll stop by a winery to view the vast wine cellars and taste some of the wineries' renowned products. You’ll take a tour of the winery and see how this sparkling wine is produced, from the pressing of the grapes to fermentation in the vast cellars. No winery visit would be complete without a taste of the product, so at the end of the tour you'll have a chance to try some of the best cava the region produces.

The two tours were great. Our guide, Arnau, gave us background information on the area while driving to the monastery. He led us through the main sites and gave us time to get lunch, do a short hike, and visit the farm vendors to buy cheese and other food. At the winery, our tour guide, Silvia, was wonderful. We got a tour of the building and vaults as well as information about their wine-making process. The tasting was excellent. Arnau was a good driver, and we had a great day.

We had a wonderful day and our tour guide Ramond was terriffic!!

This is a great day trip if you are interested in doing some hiking too. We had time to hike up to San Jeroni which was totally worthwhile with spectacular views at the top. It took us about 2 hours round trip and were able to have a quick bite before meeting our guide. Our visit to a family run winery was a perfect ending to the day!

The tour was fantastic and totally worth it!

Montserrat was beautiful and it was great getting out of the city for the day. This tour was one of our most memorable moments during our trip! Plus, having the freedom to hike and walk around for three hours was exactly what we were looking for. Our tour guide Anna was great and super informative. Highly recommend this tour it was well worth it!
