Full description

Embark on a guided day trip from Barcelona to Montserrat and the Penedès wine-growing region by minivan. Visit the monastery and the Museum of Monserrat, listen to Europe's oldest children's choir, walk through the mountain range's many paths, and visit a winery - this tour has it all. There will be plenty of free time to explore Montserrat on your own, but a visit to the sanctuary where the Moreneta is housed is a must. Pilgrims and other visitors have climbed the mountain to visit this sanctuary for nearly 1,000 years. You’ll also have the opportunity to visit the fascinating Museum of Montserrat, and browse its collections that range from the Archaeology of the Biblical East to Modern Painting and Sculpture. A highlight of visiting Montserrat is listening to the voices of Europe’s oldest children’s choir, La Escolania de Montserrat. There are numerous walking and climbing trails on the mountain, ranging from easy strolls to serious hikes. Each trail offers a different perspective on the surrounding landscape, which is dotted with small chapels and hermitages. If you'd rather not walk at all, then another option is to take one of the2 rack railways or the cable car, which provide stunning views of the area as well. After the morning in Montserrat, the tour heads to Penedès, a wine-growing region where you'll stop by a winery to view the vast wine cellars and taste some of the wineries' renowned products. You’ll take a tour of the winery and see how this sparkling wine is produced, from the pressing of the grapes to fermentation in the vast cellars. No winery visit would be complete without a taste of the product, so at the end of the tour you'll have a chance to try some of the best cava the region produces.

We had an amazing time. Rod was a fantastic guide. He was interesting, fun, safe and gave us great advice in Montserrat. Great tour that brought us outside the city, a much needed break from the busy streets of Barcelona. Day trip was absolutely worth the time and money. Good job Rod!

We had a terrific time with our guide, Rod. There were 6 in our group total, which was nice. Rod was incredibly knowledgeable and personable. This tour was certainly the highlight of our trip to Barcelona and I wish we would have done another with Explore Catalunya, the local partner of Get Your Guide.

Nice combination and reasonably long ride. Also nice to be in a small group. In Montserrat you have a lot of your own time, but you need it to be able to take the cable car and/or follow some hiking trails. Very beautiful surroundings. The guide at the winery was informative and nicely framed. The guide for the whole tour was welcoming, gave just the right amount of information and created a very good atmosphere.
