Full description
Take a guided tour of La Sagrada Familia cathedral with an expert guide, and marvel at Barcelona’s most iconic landmark in the soft light of the morning. On this tour you’ll admire the artwork of Gaudi. Striking for its architectural features and art, the Sagrada Familia is legendary. It was the all-consuming obsession of the modernist architect, Antoni Gaudi. His work on the building began in 1882 and remains unfinished. During the tour your guide will point out the contrasting nativity and passion façades. You’ll also learn about the symbolism and representations of the Holy Family as an expression of Christian ideology, constructed in stone. Note the Christian iconography as you hear about the history of the church. See the angled pillars sprouting like a web of tree branches, holding up the roof. Below the ground is the Museu Gaudi, where you’ll find documentation about Gaudi’s life and work. There is also a crypt where masses are held, and a viewing platform above the burial site of the architect.

We were guided by Manou. And she was a great guide! Telling us in English about the Sagrada Familia in a very interesting way. One thing was hard to miss, is that many of the people sitting in front of the altar were sitting in a very innaprpriate way. It was written that it's a place of prayer. But many sitting with crossed legs, and guys one leg above the other, relaxing. I think guides can also help in this matter if they mention this and stress on appropriate behavior just as they asked to remove caps and sunglasses. By the way, the voucher said no shorts/dresses/sleevless tops, but many people entered the cathedral without issues. Unfortunately, I think it has become a more commercial place just so they can collect money for ths project. It was a bit sad.

Very interesting would take German as a guide next time because you understand the story much better. Unfortunately, this language is not possible or fully booked. I wouldn't recommend the tower to anyone who doesn't have a head for heights. Lift up then narrow spiral staircase up and then down only with spiral staircase where there is a hole in the middle and you can see down.

The tour guide had an amazing knowledge and understanding of history and Barcelona in general. He was very nice and thoughtful. He explained everything thoroughly and took his time. He was great. The only odd thing about the tour is half of the people had the dome tower booked and half didn't. The people that had the dome tower booked missed the end of the guided tour. It was a bit odd to have the group mixed in this way. We had the dome tower booked so we missed the end, which was unfortunate, because the guide was SO good.
