Full description
Experience an unforgettable guided group tour to Montserrat, Catalonia's most famous mountain range. Take in the beauty of its natural rolling landscape and discover the history and traditions of its medieval monastery. After your bus journey from Barcelona, board the cogwheel train up to the monastery and admire the beautiful nature and iconic multi-peaked mountain range of Montserrat. Once at the monastery, your guide will take you on a walking tour of the historical center of the complex. Learn about the rich history of the Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey, an 11th-century monastery that still functions to this day, with over 70 monks. Use the allotted free time to wander freely and visit the famous Black Madonna and see paintings by Picasso, El Greco, and Dali at the Montserrat Museum. During your free time, you can also ride the funicular train up the side of the mountain to get even better viewpoints of the monastery.  Travelers who booked the half-day tour option will return to Barcelona after the visit to Montserrat. If you chose a full-day tour option, you'll continue toward a beautiful boutique winery. Arrive at the winery and, depending on the food option you booked, enjoy a light tapas or multi-course lunch. Admire amazing views of the winery and Montserrat mountains as you feast on traditional foods of the region. After your meal, wander around the vineyards, learn about the wine-making process, and enjoy a wine tasting session, before traveling back to Barcelona.

Marta explained so much of the history throughout our tour, and was very knowledgeable, funny, and personable. During the wine tasting, she was patient with all of our questions and happy to answer all of them. Marta also went above and beyond and provided restaurant recommendations for Barcelona. On the tour, we learned so much about the history of Barcelona and Montserrat, with beautiful views of the mountains. It was also well-paced; we had plenty of free time to explore on our own and did not feel rushed. Overall, we would highly recommend this tour to explore outside of the city of Barcelona and learn more about the history!

This was the highlight of my trip to Barcelona! My tour guide, David, was absolutely fantastic. He gave excellent, informative and funny commentary throughout our journey and I learned a lot of interesting history! He also gave great recommendations to help make the most of our free time during the day. I traveled alone on the tour and had an absolute blast, depite being nervous beforehand! Definitely go if you can!!

Very organized tour. Booked on-line and met at the designated area. We traveled via coach bus to Monserrat (approximately 1 hour). Pol did the tour of Barcelona on the way to Montserrat and it was very informative. He was articulate and funny. Beautiful countryside and efficient way to travel there. Luis was our guide for the remainder of the tour and was amazing. He had tremendous knowledge of Montserrat. We walked in to Montserrat monastery/Basilica as he gave us an overview of Montserrat, including the history and architecture of the Monastery and Basilica. In addition, we had time options of exploring the area including the Museum (with pieces by Casas, Degas, Renoir, Picasso, Monet, Dali), Basilica and Black Madonna, hike to the Cross, Funicular, and shops and local farmers' market/restaurants. Although we only had a half day tour, we could have easily spent 1-2 days there. Our return trip was a 15 min train ride the remainder was by bus back to Barcelona.
