The Balloon Museum presents Pop Air, the first exhibition dedicated to Inflatable Art in Barcelona; a group show, set up in the historic spaces of the Palau Victòria Eugènia, which brings together national and international artists with works that feature air as the main element.
Many artists over the years have engaged with this element and its containment within unconventional forms and materials, as well as several artists who have worked with sculptures made from assembled and shaped balloons of different forms and sizes. The participating artists have interpreted the theme and purpose of the exhibition to inspire visitors through a constant invitation to experience it up close.
The exhibition is designed as a unique journey that includes various types of works: large installations, inflatable sculptures, interactive and digital works. Additionally, there is a video gallery dedicated to exploring the history of Inflatable Art.
Pop Air features numerous artists, among whom are some of the most prominent international representatives of this artistic movement: Eness, Plastique Fantastique, Karina Smigla-Bobinski, Cyril Lancelin, Hyperstudio, Pepper’s Ghost, Pneuhaus & Bike Powered Events, Motorefisico, Quiet Ensemble, Ultravioletto, Max Streicher, Rub Kandy, Filthy Luker, Lindsay Glatz with Curious Form, and Stefano Rossetti.
The viewer finds themselves at the center of a new mode of participation: becoming the director of their own presence, leaving a mark of the experience in the digital world along with all the emotions associated with it. A moment experienced here and now is extended, thanks to a photo, into a prolonged time. The visit is enriched with new practices that create interactions and connections, placing the viewer in immediate relation with the artworks, the exhibition route, and other visitors.
