Full description
Located in one of the most emblematic areas of Barcelona, Poble Espanyol is architecture, it is art, it is crafts, it is open air and it is also a unique space to enjoy family activities, concerts and exhibitions. In short, Poble is a large area where history meets culture and leisure through a calm and pleasant stroll in a natural environment. Poble Espanyol was established within the framework of the 1929 Barcelona International Exhibition, with the aim of representing the architecture and culture of Spanish towns. To enter the minds of the creators of Poble Espanyol and discover the excitement of the process, do not miss the exhibition: A photographic journey. The construction of Poble Espanyol (access to the exhibition is included in the venue ticket). Over 40,000 m2 of open air space, Poble Espanyol is a precinct that is home to 117 full-scale constructions. Walking around Poble Espanyol you will discover, as well, an important representation of artisan workshops in which professionals from different generations work with glass, ceramic, leather and wicker products, among others. They themselves offer the possibility of personalized workshops and courses so that you can live the artisan experience in the first person. Poble Espanyol also includes a wide variety of bars, restaurants, terraces and shops where you can enjoy local products, audiovisual facilities and the Fran Daurel Museum, which boasts works by key figures in contemporary Spanish art. In recent years, and now more than ever, Poble Espanyol offers, in addition to the usual content open 365 days a year, cultural and leisure activities for all ages who find in the enclosure a monumental environment without equal, safe and quiet. Concerts, family activities, shows and temporary exhibitions live in Poble like nowhere else in Barcelona.

It is beautiful and interesting, unfortunately we didn’t know until we arrived (and had already purchased tickets) that most of the shops, restaurants, and all workshops are closed/inoperable during January and February, so we were unable to see, learn, and do nearly as much as we had expected to. Knowing that information ahead of time would have been helpful and we could have better planned our time and managed our expectations. The attention to detail in the different buildings and the signage was great though and we did enjoy seeing the differing buildings and learning a bit more about the history and regional information. The one restaurant we went to (one of very few that were open) had delicious food but really slow and unfriendly service. We watched three different tables just get up and leave after being completely ignored for 30+ minutes and in our case, it took more than 45 minutes to receive our meals and we were never given the dessert course that we were charged for.

We went there in the morning, so there were no concerts at that time. There’s not much to do except walking around and checking the buildings out. There are a couple of videos of Spain, a really cool audovisual show about the festives of Spain and a contemporary art exhibition. Other than those, you can go to different restaurants and shops. I would definitely go in the evening, so I could listen to the concerts and enjoy the Spanish nightlife there.

It was very easy to enter with our voucher. No problem, no line even. However, many stores were closed. I'm not sure if it's because of the winter season or if the Poble isn't that popular anymore. We did manage to find a few local production places and got some liqueurs, olive oils, and more. The visual Fiesta show was included for free and it was impressive. Recommended.
